Mitch's 2011/2012 Grow Log

Hi everyone,

Thought I would start a log with my chilli plants for the season. I live about 35 minutes north of Melbourne and I am relatively new to growing chillies (this is my second season). Last season I had some success with a naga morich (after months of flower drop), orange habaneros and african birdseyes.

This time I have spent a fair bit of money and time to date preparing for the 2011/2012 season ( aspiring to JungleRains efforts, however a long way short of that for now ;) ). My grow list is as follows:

Trinidad Scorpion (Butch T)
Douglah
Yellow 7 Pod
Naga Morich (overwintered)
Bih Jolokia
Chocolate Habanero
Orange Habanero
Peruvian White Habanero
Scotch Bonnet
Fatali
Bishops Crown
Aji Amarillo
Aji Lemon
Rocoto
Thai Chilli
Plack Pearl
African Birds Eye (Overwintered Bonsai Project)
Cayenne

I have built a raised garden, with raised rows and black plastic mulch (Other chillies will be grown in buckets):

It turned out pretty good, considering I'm trying to grow superhots in a cool and rainy environment. I'm off to go fly fishing for a few days right now. When I get back, I will have my "big" harvest and post the pics. Never did a grow log, (wished I would have) so I will have to do just a harvest series of photos. I like how you started your grow log.

Good luck with the fishing, gotta love fly fishing! =) Cant wait to see your harvest pics! Thanks for the kind words!

It's exciting to see a new crop beginning, thanks for sharing the experience Mitch.

Speaking from personal experience I've put multiple plants into extra large pots without anything spectacular occurring, hope you have better luck.

Thanks Patrick =) I am not expecting too much with the multiple plants, worth a shot though =) Cheers

Wow Mitch! Looks great. Great thread to follow in our winter! Good luck.

Matt

Thanks Matt. Hope I get some pics to keep you keen over your winter, before you know it will be Spring for you again! Big fin of your chilli review videos. Don't know how you do it, but they are excellent! =) Cheers.

Built a greenhouse. Put some fatalis, bishops crown, scorpions and black pearls in there. Up to 53 degrees Celsius at the moment in there. Is this too hot?

yesssss way too hot, maybe leave the door open..then check the temps,
tomorrows going to be hotter than today, how old are they?

Temp is really getting up, now 56 C degrees after the pic was taken. Only 24 C outside.

Mich, looking at the size of the plants in there I'd say they can go outside,
just keep your eye on them for the first week till they acclimatise to the outdoors
maybe place them in a semi shaded area!
have you got holes in those buckets????

Mitch.... Look out for JalapeƱo, I think you broad mites on it.....don't let it spread isolate it out. I could be wrong, but good luck

Just a little update for anyone who is interested. I had my fair share of issues this season. The biggest being possums! Lots a few plants overnight a few times. Other then that I had a nasty aphid plague on my fatalis and butch t's. Had to cut them all back yesterday to get rid of the aphids. They should come back to life with leaves soon I hope.

Anyway now to the good news. Things are looking great at the moment. Pods on my black pearl, scotch bonnet and chocolate habs. Also flowers on the bishops crowns, yellow 7s, orange habs, caysans, rocotos and douglahs. All plants are looking quite healthy and they are enjoying this spell of warm weather in Melbourne. Although they are drinking a bit of water. If anyone wants pics I can upload some this weekend.

Cheers
Mitch
