Monsanto makes highly hybridized seeds available to home gardeners

interesting. way back in the day before gmo tech. they would expose plant embryos to ionizing radiation.

apparently this is how Norman Borlaug did all his work.

this is probably the same mechanism.

Aaron, early in this thread I said I have many other reasons for hating Monsanto.  Your graph is one of the main ones.  I am sick to know my democracy has been bought and sold.  The US government is supposed to represent the US people, not US mega business.

Law and policy-makers being allowed to create laws and policies in their own interest is quite literally the definition of having the deck stacked against you - if you aren't them. Welcome to the basis of the Occupy movement, and something most all of us SHOULD BE able to agree upon.

Lobbying is on par w/ ad/marketing as some of the most insidious aspects of modern American life ...

term limits for all politicians and equal budgets for all elections could end this cycle and restore our gov't to working for us the people again.  what other alternatives that accomplish the end of career-ist pols to go from office for lobby firm exist?

Smokefire, unfortunately I do not see those things taking place any time soon.  Grant mentioned the Occupy Movement.  I think that movement got the message out, but the American people were too content with their cake and circus to care.  People have gotten to the point where they accept their artificial station in life.  Now and then we have our folk heroes like the Facebook guy, but for the most part we have come to accept that the law s empower the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.

It wont cost corporations any more to buy politicians by the term. To fix this the supreme court has to declare corps arent persons and then ban them from donating money and having lobbyists.

Which devolves pretty quickly into fascism and/or already is.

able eye - Right on.  In trying to convince you otherwise, people like to become rather high brow and pretend to explain the ruling.  It is simple math.  If the individual is only allowed to donate $1,000.00 to a campaign, the conversation is over when the individual does so.  Articles of incorporation are not a magic rights amplification document that lets individuals exceed what they would otherwise be able to do.

If the individual wants to spend his or her money in accordance with the various laws, I see no issue.  If a bunch of individuals want to cost share an effort in accordance with the various laws, I see no issue.  The problem, as I see it, is that the special interest groups can now filter that money in such a way as to nullify the regulations on individual political donations.

I am a member of the NRA because I like most of what they do.  So I will trash on them so nobody will claim bias.  Republicans are thought of as pro Second Amendment rights.  Democrats are thought of as anti Second Amendment rights.  So there is a presidential election coming, I donate my limit to the Republican candidate.  I should be done.  Instead I can then donate to the NRA which in turn promotes that Republican candidate in a back door sort of effort.  I have effectively exceeded the donation limit, but because I did so threw the lens of the NRA, my right to donate is magnified.

Now lets say my business manufactures firearms.  Should I be allowed to magnify my voice, my freedom of speech, louder than the anti Second Amendment rights folk?  Because our representatives are supposed to represent us as a collective, I object to the backdoor funding of bills and candidates via backdoor efforts like this.

In the rules for who may and may not be president we see the framer's intention clearly.  They insisted a person must be a natural born citizen because they did not want wealthy Europeans like the King and his relatives taking control of the United States.  They did not want the elites to run the place, but to have a nation of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Such a beautiful idea liberty is.  So very sorry to see it lost and to raise my children to want to distance themselves from what has replaced it.  If that sounds horrible, consider the alternative and the volume of nut cases now stockpiling weapons and ammunition to overthrow the current government.  If the poor continue to get poorer and the rich continue to get richer, eventually the poor are going to eat the rich.  Myself, i am a vegetarian.

Fearing I have gone way to far on the politics, here is a forum which is better suited.  All are welcome.  Its just a FB politics forum.  Nothing to do with peppers so dont think it is bad to list.

NRA membership is not as right wing as you might think. there are a number of left leaning and old style southern democrat types in the NRA, hence the number of strongly pro gun southern democratic law makers ATM.

Grant, dude you gotta  visit the giant pumpkin thread.  You dont raise one of those bad boys without a gun, damn thing might turn on you.  Seriously, not left wing, not right wing, more like no wing.  No matter what either side claims, both want government up your rear in one way or another.  I would rather they just stay out any of my body cavities.

So i pay my taxes and do not poke the bear with a stick.  Hey, new lie about my toe.  I poked a bear with it.

Ye, the two parties are so intent on being opposed to each other that over the course of a couple decades they seem to change opinions and some members have trouble keeping up. As a teen, I drank beer at the democratic club with my girlfriends father.  Assume they figured I was his son.  No way that good ol boy was pro choice or anti gun.  Fairly sure he was a member of the KKK also.  Sure talked the talk and walked the walk.
