chinense Morouga Scorpion x 7 Pot Brain Strain ?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows if this particular cross has been done, and if so, what F number it might be at this season ?

The basis of my curioisty is if the offspring shows the same sort of pimpling, as you might expect, or something else entirely ?

Regards,

Tim

I will be curious to see what others have to say here, as to me it appears that one was used to create the other. My Yellows side by side look identical or each produce what would look typical of the other.

("Idiocracy" I love that stupid movie. Everyday I see something stupid that reminds me of it).

Pretty sure they're 'brothers' of a sort, where one strain was grown out by one guy and the other by a different guy, which is why they look so similar.

Thanks for that info so far.

I thought the "controversy" surrounding these two types was done and dusted a while ago and it was determined that the Brain Strain is a selection from the 7 Pot CARDI, so not related to the Morouga scorpion at all, hence I wondered what a cross would likely produce (if that can be guessed in any way).

If it doesn't open a can of worms, any ideas on how the Brain Strain was created using the morouga scorpion ... ?

Regards,

Tim

Actually, as cappy would back me up on. The 7 pot brainstrain came from a 7 pot SR that he recieved from... well Sara R from trinidad. She gave him seeds, as well as others, and his wrinkly shape was unique. Thus the brainstrain was born!

How does one even differentiate between Moruga and Brain Strain?
It's because I have both varieties growing and I don't know whether I grow 3 TMS - 1 7PBS, 2 - 2 or 1 - 3...
That and that last pic has pods similar to those of 3 of my superhots, with the 4th one pending with widdle pods.

Moruga

In terms of how I tell if I'm not sure, I cut it in half and if it has a more pointed center section it's a brain, if it's more rounded with most of the time a dimple in the bottom it's a Moruga. They also both smell different, Brains more fruity, Morugas more pungent and sharp of a cap smell.

Those are some awesome photos LawrenceJ, I just wanna reach out and pluck those off the screen, especially that brain strain. Mine didn't come out as wrinkled, more like waves down the sides

The Moruga Blend was grown out By Chris,( cmpman1974) for several years after he got the seeds sent to him from Trinidad, you can read about what Judy has to say about it at pepperlover.com, I'm not sure who selected and grew out the Brain Strain 7 pot.
There has been a few crosses done by some of the members here of the moruga x brain and there has been some different colored varieties of both the moruga and brain strain selected and grown out, most of which you can buy at some of the vendors.

Ah hah - thanks for that George. Any idea who has the crosses ?

Yes, some lovely varieties of the two out there.

I've got Judy's new green and mustard morouga headed my way !

Tim

I'm not sure just who has crosses of it or that grew the crosses of it this year, there are a few people that are responsible for coming up with different crosses here, My old brain just can't remember who. I would ask around, or perhaps someone will pop up and answer you. I went through my own seeds just to see if I might have been sent some, but no i didn't get sent any I think it would be a tasty but crazy hot pepper, one that I would definitely add to my want list.

Isn't all of the Trinidad's, really in one way or the other a 7 pot just different Pheno's , I have a feeling people in Trinidad don't say this ones a 7 pot this one is a brain Etc. There all 7 pots there??

I made this cross, I gave F1 seed to MGOLD86 and he was growing it out this year, but I haven't seen any updates lately...

Would be interesting to see what comes of that cross (or any others) .... I see Fords Fiery Foods is doing an F-3 7 Pot BS x Trinidad Scorpion ButchT and some pictures show a pod or two with very broad shoulders. Looks muscular to me.

I discovered a chocolate or brown pod that looks some what like a cross of the two or it could just be a extra bumpy Brown Moruga.
It came from a plant that had acted like it was stumped as it hardly grew at all  and then put out four large pods, I had several plants that didn't do anything this year,  so I just let the tags ware out to a point you couldn't read them now I wish I had kept them where you could read them, I have a red mystery and a rusty colored mystery, but both have really hot pods and the taste is pretty close to a 7pot/pod,  trinidad cross. Oh well if they ever get the right gowing conditions and some good weather they should have some really mean pods.   I did find a seed pack marked "Not MadBallz " Rusty 7pot,  but other than that its just a crap shoot. I like it so that is good enough for me.
