Muscle Cars

So as to not continue to hijack someone else's topic, I figured I'd start one up here.

Any muscle car fans in the house? I happen to be a HUGE muscle car nerd.

In my younger days (and when gas was still under $2/gal) I had a 1968 GTO that I loved very much. It had a somewhat rare combination of features, in that it was the 400/4 BBL, with the enduro bumper, hide-away headlights, rear antennae and dual exhaust, but had the "gentlemanly" options of a split bench seat, command control power windows (e.g. driver had a 4-window console). I loved that I could put the armrest up and my girl could slide over next to me at the vista point, but when cruising around I could have the armrest down and it was like psudo-bucket seats.

It was also a somewhat rare color, "nordic blue" (metallic silver-blue) which I think is one of the nicest colors GM put out - the lines of the car are so clean and the color really shows them off.

This isn't a pic of my car (only have a couple mediocre ones and my scanner is on the fritz) but this is basically it:

I wasn't a Pontiac snob, though I remember back then there were a lot of factions. You were either a Ford guy or a GM guy, or you loved MOPAR...the Corvette had its own following (and I am a sucker for a '66 Stingray with side-pipe exhaust)

But I was never one who disparaged other makes just because I had a Pontiac - I loved Fords, Chevys, MOPAR, AMC, etc though. If it rumbled and went fast, and had lots of chrome & shiny metal I was probably a fan.

I was more of a stock guy, though hot rods and chops had their place.

Anyone else here a fan? What's your favorite? Pics are fun!

I'll see if I can dig out some of my recent car show pics....

Wow very nice !!!! My dad had multiple corvettes my favorite was his 67 convertible had a Keith Black 427 with side pipes a Muncie m22 rock crushed 4 speed man that car hauled!! My first big ticket still have an imprint on my butt were my dad kicked it!!! Hahaha

My brothers and I were huge AMC and MOPAR GUY'S I had a nasty javelin in high school with a 401 my dad's drag racing buddy put in was a beast!! And my brother and I had a 66 Cuda we bought together he crashed and totalled while I was in the NAVY oh man I wanted to kill him but that's life :)

We were lucky to have a father that loved cars and his son's!!! Great Memories "tear"

Thanks LuckyDog cool idea!!!! :)

I had 2 identical 67 Baracuda fastbacks. 383 Formula S, 727 torqueflite automatics. Dana 60 rear ends.
I was 18 yrs old and living with my uncle in Grants Pass Oregon in the early 80's.
1 had a blown engine from a spoiled brat who didn't appreciate the car. Bought that for $300.
The other I got from a fool who didn't know how to drive and wrapped it around an oak tree. Paid $300 for that one too.

After a long weekend I was able to swap out all the best parts into the good body and had a badass ride for under $1,000.
Wasn't the prettiest ride but I could blow the doors off of shiny cars all day long.
I worked at a gas station so gas was cheap, especially after hours
I needed cheap gas because with that massive Holley 750 double pumper I was lucky to get 12 mpg.

I literally cried when I had to sell it so I could come back home. I cried more when I heard it got totalled 3 months later.

Got no pics anymore, just memories.

The only thing that bugged me about Mopar was the plastic cheap ass ugly interiors

My buddy had a 71 Cuda Same car that was in phantasm. Really nice looking exterior, solid cheap powder blue plastic door panels. Ugly as sin on the inside but damn that car hauled ass.
Found some pics from a recent car show that happened to be going on at one of my markets.

I'll post a few at a time & after others post I'll post a few more.

Here's the cream of the crop in terms of rarity for this event:

I hope those reading this understand how incredibly rare this car is. The original owner was standing next to it, and was super happy to chat about it.

And what I loved is that he actually drove it.

I drove a '67 Olds Cutlass like this in high school and college. It was my dad's and had seen better days. I'm not sure if it's considered a true muscle car but had 330 cubic-inch V8 rated at 320 hp. It was a boat but could still scoot if you mashed the pedal. Still love the look and would love to get the 442 version someday!

The air cleaner looks weird because he had it off to show off the 6-pack.

Absolutely a muscle car!  Love the Olds Cutlass, and this is a great year. the 4-4-2 is the more rare/desirable model, but nothing wrong with this ride.

i dont know jack about cars in general... new cars less so.
but whats not to love about old car styling... i mean come on, look at that uh.... that blue car two pics up from the bottom of luckys post above me.
it looks so lovely... probably better looking than it was new.

that cars probably magic.

when one sits in the drivers seat and turns over the ignition... seat belt disappears,  your hair automatically cuts itself into a crew cut, black rimmed glasses appear on your face... one of those black fedoras pops onto your head.... suspenders over a white dress shirt with a classy patterned tie....

oh yea... and an unfiltered cigarette pops into your mouth.

My first car was a dark green '68 Barracuda Fastback.  It wasn't a hot car - 318ci - but I loved it.  I bought it in the spring of '73 as a junior in HS.  It was stolen and wrecked while I was living in Columbus, OH in grad school.  I got it back but it couldn't be driven and ended up going to the salvage yard.  That was so stupid.  I still have the wheel covers - 3 good and one dented from the wreck.  I miss it all the time - nothing like living in the past (cue the Jethro Tull)!
