Naga Morich x Peruvian Purple

Last year I grew my first superhot, a Naga Morich. I saved the longest fruit from that plant to collect seed for this year. One of the plants I grew took off like a weed, but only started to put out fruit once I placed it in full all-day sun. The fruits did not look like the Naga Morich, so it must be a hybrid. I had a number of peppers growing alongside it including Tabasco and Peruvian Purple. Originally I thought it was a Tabasco cross because of the shape of the fruits, but now because they're turning purple, I'm leaning more towards the Peruvian Purple. A lot of the fruit have an interesting curvy shape. Here are some pics.

I'll wait until they're mature to try them. If they're like the Peruvian Purple then they'll eventually ripen to red. I'm hoping they've retained some of the Naga Morich flavor. I'm trying isolate a flower to see if it will pollinate itself, I'll keep trying until it works and grow that seed out next year.

I've read that F1 plants are supposed to be uniform, but mine are not. I have another phenotype that is starting to put out fruit now, the pod looks more like the Naga Morich, whereas this one pictured above looks more like a frutescens. I'll post pics of this other type soon.

Maybe your last year's naga plant was unknowingly an f1?

Very good point Potawie! Last year was my first experience with a "superhot" and I purchased a plant and not seed.

I'll see how this second variation looks and determine if I'll grow them out next year. Or if there's anyone out there who likes this kind of thing and wants seed, I'll mail it away!

I noticed most of the color change is on the tops of the peppers. Do you think it could be sunburn? My jalapenos look like that when they get too much of a good thing. Nice looking plants :woohoo:

Maybe, I'll take a look today and see if it's still only on the top.

I had to do a little pruning on this plant and ate an immature pepper after trying one of my immature tabascos... so hotter than a tabasco so far, will see how it matures. And yes, I will try to refrain from eating until after harvest...

Here are some pics of another plant grown from seed from the same pod as this one above. I'll call this one Naga Morich x Peruvian Purple V2:

Two pods so far.

The other looks like a Bhut Jolokia to me:

To compare, here are pics taken today of Naga Morich x Peruvian Purple V1:

It could be Romy, in which case it could be back to NM x Tabasco or more accurately NM x ?

They look larger than tabasco but can't tell. Do you have a photo with your hand in it for scale? The "purple" colour on them looks a lot like my sunburnt pods.

We'll have to wait and see the colour :D

Some of V1 are ripening, I'm thinking they are Tabasco hybrids because of the juiciness of the fruit when I bit into it:

So they are juicy and fruity taste like a Naga Morich.
