I'm not sure if anyone here knows about Native Seeds / SEARCH out of Tucson, Arizona. So, I thought I'd post a link to their website in case anyone wants to order seeds from them. They do good work, preserving traditional foods through seed-saving. You can get foods from them as well. Here are their chile seeds:

I agree, it's a great site. But their shipping costs are VERY high!

In this age of mega-corps introducing genetic modified seeds, it's nice to see a place like Native Seed/SEARCH doing just the opposite with a business model promoting an authentic line. I got my Chimayo seeds from them with the hope it is as close as possible to the real deal. (They are growing well so far. I'm also hoping since they are accustomed to shorter growing seasons they will kick ass here!)

Also got some Melon de Castilla just cause it sounded darned interesting.

For shipping, I paid $3.50 shipping for 5 packs of seeds. The actual postage from USPS was $1.39. The nice bubble cell envelope prolly cost them 30 or 40-cents. That leaves about $1.80 for someone to get my order together and pack it up. So I don't think they're making a killing there. They were pretty quick shipping--ordered Thursday, had them Tuesday.

The aspect of supporting the culture through native seeds is pretty darn cool. Ancestors of the original chile-heads, I guess....

p.s. surprised they aren't on the 'list of seed vendors' pinned above. If my Chimayo performs well, I'll cast them a vote for sure.
