Need help, going crazy!!!!

Hello fellow gardeners!

It has been quite a while since I've visited this forum. I come to you all in need of some desperate help! For the past few years I've been struggling with my pepper growing. Each year has brought about a new insect that enjoys the plants more than I do. This year, it is whitefly. I've done a ton of research on these things, and how they are nearly impossible to get rid of -- and that they even survive winter.

So far, I have:
-Removed all leaves and trimmed back plants heavily.
-burnt all infected prunings and soil
-sprayed everything you can think of, a few times a week

This has been going on for a few months. All the foliage has since grown back. Plants are in new dirt. I'm still spraying. Still the flies persist.

What else can i do?!?!?!?! Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

i have no idea on how to kill those things! i had a few on my plants last year, and got them on my hibiscus as well as aphids really bad! so i bought tree&shrub by green light. it is a gnarly sestemic pesticide(so you could not eat peppers if you used it on them) but in 3 weeks all the aphids/whitflys were gone! so on my balcony i have a mix of edible/non edible so in all the non edible plants i use this stuff and have had no issues at all! had a small aphid issue but lady bugs did the trick. i really hope you get them erradicated!

Good luck friend! A close friend of mine is doing extensive research on this pest at UF and besides natural enemies it seems like they're impervious to exisitng pesticides and means of mechanical extraction. Let me know if you find somehting that works.

You may want to try coffee and coffee grounds. This may give you direction.

Was just reading how the whitefly can be detered by marigolds. Have you tried them out yet? They're pretty cheap and you can keep them in their pots moving them around to "quarantine" your infected plants.

I have heard about the systemics stuff, and it is really a last resort to me. The whole point of growing hot peppers is to eat them! I hate to use any kind of pesticide (and I've been using them allll lately) because everyone in my family enjoys them, and I'd rather not slow poison everybody. If I did end up using a systemic, it would be just to collect seed from the plants, then discard of them all. I highly doubt I would ever eat from them.

I've just been reading about a certain type of lady buy that can get rid of the whitefly, but can't find anyone who sells it yet.

Here is a whole article on the things. Greenhouse IPM: Sustainable Whitefly Control

Hah, thanks. :\ I will definitely keep this updated, seeing as there is quite a limited knowledge on how to get rid of these things. I've searched for months and tried everything I could get my hands on so far.

I heard that worked for aphids, though I never read that it was also effective on whitefly. Now that I think of it, I remember whiteflies are attracted to yellow, so that is probably a great way to start. I'll get to lowe's and get some asap!!

Thanks for all the help guys!! I already have tons of new stuff to try!! :)

This has a lot of information about the control of the white fly

Hope this helps

If your a smoker you could try putting all the Butts/dogends/filters after you have smoked the cigerette into an old stocking or sock and let it soak in a bucket of water like making a really big mild nicotine cup of tea and use this to spay the white fly it will get rid of them with in days.

Nicotine OD for bugs. Seems strangely sinister.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn't that dangerous to use on pepper plants?

Whereeee would I be able to get that? Didn't see it in the local big box stores.....

Anyway, today I went out and got some coffee grounds from starbucks. They were more than happy to give them to me. I also picked up some marigolds. I'll see how this goes for now. :)
