I'm having issues getting my images that i upload to imgur to link here.  when i click the image button and add it says You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.  which file type should i be using?

i'd love to share pictures of my garden and sauces i'm making, but for the life of me i cant figure out how to get the images to post here.  any help is appreciated.

You want the option on there "BBCode"

I use IMGUR and the Admins gave me this easy method (Note: Not in BBCode mode as noted above.).
 
After the "Reply to this topic" box opens, place the cursor where you want the pic to appear.
Go to your imgur account and right click on the pic.
In the menu that opens left click on "Copy image".
Return to the post and right in the body where cursor is flashing
In the menu that opens left click on "Paste"
 
VOILA!
