No surgery for me...

Seems more and more insanity is SOP for doctors.  Once sent for an X ray of right foot.  GP got results and asked why I scheduled an MRI.  I said I didn't schedule an MRI.  She said that is strange because you are scheduled for an MRI.  When is it?  Yesterday.  Sorry I missed it.  You shouldn't be.  Why not?  Because now that we have an x ray of your left foot, I know you have a piece of metal in your foot, and MRI would have been a very bad thing.  Uh ye, I have seen House MD.

So was scheduled for surgery this coming Friday.  Got phone call from surgeons office saying they cancelled cause I failed my pre surgery tests.  I asked why, they told me I needed to call my GP.  GP's office has no clue what the surgeons office is talking about.  Evidently they told me to call the GP before they called the GP.

Uggggggg!!!!!

The problem is the medical field like all institutions, are just bureaucracies.  Reason is replaced with procedure and the right hand never knows what the left is doing.  Combine that with "the Conceit of the Anointed" and you get a very dangerous situation indeed.

As of 5 PM tonight, GP still had no clue why surgery was canceled.  Called the surgeon back, they told me to call the GP.  Now shopping for a shop knife, bottle of whiskey, and is it a stick I am supposed to bite down on?

Welcome to the modern healthcare industry.  Every time I've seen a doctor lately they can't wait to get through the appointment so they can shove me out the door and get the next poor guy in.  It's just a giant revolving door now.  You'd think the surgeon that was going to do the surgery would actually know whether or not they are going to do it....right?

tOmato - I am thinking liability.  The surgeon doesn't want it.  So the surgeon passes it to the GP.  GP doesn't want it, so she passes it to a heart guy.  Thing is, the doctors can only measure the medical risks and balance them against the medical benefits.  Its the patient who can measure things like work, mortgage, school activities, and other needful activities.

My own family physician is a bona fide miracle worker, but i do agree that the bureaucracy and office politics of the system stink -- in both the US and Canada.

AJ, you have a talent for taking an intolerable situation, and making light of it, while yet commenting most accurately on the sorry state of things. Thank you for that.

I'm going to show this thread to a friend of mine in a similar predicament. I do believe it might be just the thing to raise his spirits.

I was just reading about how Blacksmiths were considered magical in ancient times and that there may have been intentional laming so as to prevent the smith from leaving the village.  Maybe you're caught in a karmic loop.  seems more than coincidental anyway.

Mkeg, thank you sincerely.  I am the product of years of support group and friendships with stroke victims.  Some of those people are unbelievable.  Funny thing being although I make great fun of the A.J.'s ass gardening thing, it really has changed my life for the better.

Topsmoke, you know the alien implant thing has been done to death and always seems to lead to discussions of anal probing.  I think I might change the story to your blacksmith karmic approach.  Much less cliche.
