Norwegian Kratky Grow 2022

Hi Everybody, and welcome to this growlog! I'm always looking for input and feedback!

I grow in Kratky hydro for the first time, so this should be a steep learning curve! So far I have about 70+ varieties in this grow tent (3x2m) but some plants will move to new locations as we move along.

My biggest concern isn't really that I have WAY too many plants for my limited space, my concern is all the fantastic seeds and varieties I haven't started yet :)
If I don't start them soon it's so late for this season. Would love to grow some more rocotos etc

The outdoor season in Norway is short and cold, so growing peppers here you have to be an optimistic idiot like me, and be prepared to use a lot of time and energy for every fruit you harvest.

I'm mostly after the tropical Caribbean chinense flavors. Habs and Scotch Bonnets (and close relatives) make up about half of my plants! Some of you may already know me from Instagram and Facebook, but I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you others!

Maria Bonita
🇧🇷

(Capsicum Chinese)
This is a new variety developed by The Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). They have used the famous Brazilian Biquinho chili, and through selective breeding got it to produce twice as many fruits with a bigger size.
Very low heat, and supposedly a nice sweet fruity flavor. I can't wait to taste it!
I got the seeds from my friend Carlos Alberto Kasper in Brazil along with many other interesting Brazilian varieties.
Still no signs of flowers tho... hope she will explode soon!

Ah, great to have the Brazilian Connection!

I can send you some seeds if you want! He sent me a few of each.

I have to show my plants around in the garden where they are going to live when they grow up ;) we have around 10 ° C, but in the sun the temperature is a lot more.

Twice as many fruits as a regular Biquinho and larger fruits 😮 there must be no room left for leaves then!

Found this comparison picture between Maria Bonita and Biquinho via Google...

Oxkutzcabain Orange
❤️

The Oxkutzcabian Orange was discovered in 1979 on a market in the province of Yucatan (Mexico). It looks very much like a regular orange habanero, but the flavor is different from any other orange Habanero I have tasted.

It’s sweet, smokey, and complex. Very juicy and tropical, with a lot less of that «orange» flavor. These were closer to what the peach chiles often taste like. Way better
😉

Last season the Oxkutzcabain was a real surprise in my grow! So this season I grow more than one plant and are already planning a delicious hotsauce with this wonderful chili

Sounds like a very good pepper indeed; I'm not a big fan of orange Habs but I might just try this one next year as the "complex very juicy and tropical" flavor as you descibed it piqued my curiosity!

I can send you some seeds if you want! But I hope I haven't set your expectations too high ;) I'm not a fan of orange habs, or orange flavor in peppers at all. But I really liked this one! It was damn hot as well. Probably the hottest habanero I have tasted! I would have liked it to be less hot to be honest. But then I see some list it as a low habanero heat, so I don't know...

A little update on this plant.... It's turning yellow! So either I messed up the labels or if I'm really lucky I have a yellow pheno. Probably the first ;) They just started changing colors yesterday, so I'm not even sure if yellow is the final color.
I have some Primo x Butch T yellow growing, so that might be a suspect for a mixup of labels. Whatever it is I'm already in love with this plant.
Do you guys have any input on what these could be based on the pictures?

I really thought this was going to be the year I wasn't going to fuck up the labels (even taped the labels on with gorilla tape) but who knows.

I tasted an unripe pod that fell off. Whatever it is, it's HOT! Instant burn (no buildup at all) and also instant endorphins and adrenaline.

This color change really gives me the feeling of a new season :) It got me really excited to taste all the new flavors and varieties!
