OCD 2017!!!

Well it's 2017. Finally! Last year was a success, as far as the ground plants were concerned. Virgin, clay ground. My Chinese got smacked by hail twice! No room for error with those. Out of 12 plants I got ONE BBG. First and only. That variety is cursed. Tried for the past 3 years and some sort of calimity happens.

This year I decided to try 21+ different varieties of the BBG. I have 9 Reaper crosses. 21 and counting other varieties. I built a hoophouse and some COB led's. Planning on getting them outside in March sometime. That might be a delusion, beings I'm in Colorado. We shall see. There is only a few varieties that I've grown before. The rest are all new. I'm planning on isolating most of them.

Just started some Lemon Drops for Throwdown Growdown. I will wait a couple weeks before I start the others. Everything needs to be in order before I germinate. No turning back at that point. I want two plants from most varieties. Plants need to be woody by ground day. That's the only way I have a chance at success with late maturity varieties. If I have extras, I'll give away to my friends of THP.

My list is growing, but not much. Here is some of the varieties that made the cut.

How are your bbg peach ghost jami and peach naga bbg7 going?  I grew the latter and it is definitely not what I was hoping for.  The calyx is barely split on them and the pods are small with a very regular shape (from RFC) - what I wanted was a blistered, bleeding peach pod.  I hope yours turns out better!  I was going to try the bbg peach jami but it's only F2 and I already had too many "maybe" varieties this year.
Almost all my plants in the garden have no flowers. Including the PGJ. Cooler temps from here on out will probably induce flowering. I've got two months before I'll see frost. Hopefully that's enough time.

I went back to look at the beginning of your grow, definitely forgot you were in Colorado and growing in a greenhouse.  I'm guessing the elevation might be a factor too?  Very nice and impressive setup and hopefully lower temps kick those flowers into gear.  I am having the opposite problem.  Not enough sun and temps in the 70's - it has been a rainy summer.  Most of my pods are tiny and ripening way too early.

Thanks Rick!

11 out of 42 plants in the ground in the hoophouse that are showing signs of flowering.

8 out of 11 outside the hoophouse showing signs.

8 out of 26, 1 gallon pots in the hoophouse showing signs.

3 out of 29, 3-7 gallon pots shaded patio, showing signs.

2 out of 16, 1 gallon pots showing signs.

That's 32 plants out of 124 plants. That's like 39% of the whole garden. I didn't count all my 4in pot plants. 90% of them are flowering. LOL! Even got pods on them!

It's been a weird year for weather all over the country. I sure hope, I get some more blossoms. I have some really cool varieties, I want to try. I might have to just admit defeat. Could be one of those years.

Hope you get some good weather as well.

Thanks Sandy!!!

I need all the good vibes I can get. I was kinda bummed going to work this morning. I was thinking of all the hard work and time I've devoted. I snapped out of it pretty quick. But still.

Next year I'm going back to the drawing board. I'm growing varieties, I know will stick. I'll buy my Chinese pods from growers. I'll grow Chinese, just not as many. I know what works for my environment. I just keep fighting it. LOL!

I had a awesome season in 2014. I guess, I'm still chasing that high. Freaking addictive personality. LOL!

Take care.

I hear ya 'bout frustration Chuck... I thought my plants would never get big enough and start flowering this spring as cold as it was. I'm glad to see things turning around for you now. Autumn comes on quick at your altitude, but your preparations will extend your growing season to the point where I'm sure you'll get a decent harvest. Hang in there... the fat lady won't sing for at least another 8-10 weeks. Cheers!

"Hang tough Chuck ! Never admit defeat , like you said 2 months and cooler weather"

You have 2 months of good weather AND you have a beautiful hoop house to protect your plants for another 2 months. You will soon be swimming in hot peppers, so get those plans ready!
Thanks Jane. I think your right. I think, I'll have enough time for some pods. Its just weird not having full size green pods by now. Thanks for the good vibes.

Thanks Rick! Just when I think I've got my Colorado growing skills in check, Mother Nature puts things into perspective. LOL! Peppers are my pleasure, but growing is my passion. I still have a lot of fun growing. I admit that, I have felt like it's been a job this year. The extras plants got me this year. I didn't cull one plant. Everything that germinated hit dirt.

Chuck things seem to be moving for you.I think of it as your first football game. You get the kinks worked out and by game 2 you are ready to roll buddy.Box heads to Colorado next Monday if your not vacationing.Let me know if you are.
Thanks Randy!
You are correct. I'm learning a lot this year. Game two will be a great game. Will not disappoint next year. I'll test my soil again this year and will be ready next year for sure. I'm going to try and not add any amendments during the season next year. If I can get a good living soil, I'll be stoked.

Thanks for the offer Randy. I sent a PM awhile back. No vacation for me right now. To busy working. Thanks you again. You Rock! Even if the offer is not valid, you still rock!

A little update. Plants are monstrous. Starting to get flowers. As soon as the temps dropped I started foliar feeding epsom salt once a week. I hope the temps stay where they are for awhile. Dont want any flower drop.
Looking good Chuck! It's nice to see your chiles flowering. You're right, the plants are monsters! Hete's hoping for a mild autumn so you get a bumper crop. [emoji106]
