We are starting the New Year with a little run of freezing weather; lows in the 25˚F range at night.

1/1/13 - Soaked seeds 24+ hours, put into seed starting mix (BG, peat and perlite mix). The temp in the grow shelf about 72 degrees, the dome trays about 84 degrees.

Totally awesome, its December and youve still got it going on in the greenhouse! Those plants are looking mighty happy... I am sure they will give you pay back come spring ;) If you see any roots coming out of the ground, their from my grow - please don't pull them lol

As always , your posts bring out the enthusiasm...where ever I read em, so don't ever stop. :dance:
 
1) Looks like you've gone all "mad scientist"- considering where you are, that would be my inclination as well!Those Tepins are almost perfect Bonsai material, nice work.
I keep threatening to do that with my Lone Ranger petin....I'll have to make a note on that.
2) I love those thick walls on those Naga Brains-that thing screams sauce.
3) Seeing those apples on the trays , gives me an idea.....might be interesting to do a round of apples or banana chips after a few runs of the fierce ones, without rinsing the trays....hot apple chips sound good! :party:

Okay - germination test underway.  Gary's NagaBrain late pods
from the F2 mama are in the top center; the others are either late
harvest gas ripened or bag ripened pods.  Temperature under
the baggies 84˚F (I had to put two layers of paper towel under the
left side):

Hi, Lourens.  I think upping the temp a few degrees and
putting in the light has made a difference in the greenhouse
environment.
 
If I see any of your roots, I'll just turn 'em around and
head them back your way!

Thanks, Scott.  I've wondered whether the 'artificially' ripened
pods had the same viability as the vine=ripened.  If so, that adds
a lot of seeds to the vault!  I haven't tried the coffee filter/baggie
trick yet, so that's an experiment in itself.  Not very good scientific
method      :oops:​       :rofl:

so that may well be the case.
 
When I start seeds they will be in peat seed mix or jiffy pellets.

Interesting test man. Let me know. I had to ripen a couple of my red habs on a cut piece of branch to save the from the frost. The pods turned a nice deep red pretty quickly. Hopefully the seeds are viable. I won't start germinating for a couple weeks.

One or two (can't tell for sure about the second w/o taking out of bag)
of the Giant Whites popped - it was a bag ripened pod, the last from the
plant, so we know there can be viable seeds.  No others have popped yet.

Great stuff Paul! Will be interesting to see if there is a difference in %ages between them! I have germed some seeds out of green pods before...but only with stuff like Jals and Bells. Usually the seeds closest to the stem develop first so another interesting experiment would be to test germ % from groups of seeds harvested from the stem end, middle and tip of the pod to see if there is a difference there as well???

Woah, major scientific inquiry there!  I usually try to knock any loose
seeds out of the pods when I'm deseeding, and use those first. 
 
I'm not sure I'll get good percentage figures, but my main question is
whether they will have viable seeds at all.  The Giant White Hab is a
real trooper, I'm not surprised it popped a couple in just a few days.
Still waiting on the others.

Hey, Shane.  I just checked the baggies with the hand lens, and
three of the Giant White Hab seeds are showing radicles, one
about 1/4" long!  I should sow them!

I'm ordering Root Pouches again - I really liked the last ones I got,
but this time I'm getting the boxer brown bags: http://rootpouch.com/boxer-brown.
 
As well as the grey ones have worked (going into 3rd season) for me,
these seem like a logical alternative, especially cuz they are not as
degradeable (6-yr ), and the price is not that much different.  Here is the link to
