PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's
  • 7 Pot Burgundy, brown phenotype, pecan shape from 2017 F2 of the 7PB from Windchicken
  • Scotch Bonnet, MoA, F2 of seeds from John/Sim, not high production, but some nice pods
  • JA Red Habanero, F5 of seed from Walk Good/Devv
  • Yellow Scorpion, F7 aka Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and CARDI Scorpion, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate, F3 of seed from Georgia Growhead
  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

This Sweet Banana is the sickest looking plant I've ever seen.
I figured at least the leaves would be green  :

Been seeing a lot of this guy lately, Paul, and every time I do I wonder...  is his name Eugene?

He looks like a Eugene  ;)

I hope you get that sun & heat to bring out the full color on the p thunder.  Super cool pods. Plus we could use it around here.  The weather around here has just refused to cooperate so far.

If it walks like a duck, etc...  :D

Let's just call him 'Gene, Monster Linebacker in the Making

Check out that stance!

Yeah, 2 hours of sun five minutes at a time during a day is not
really cutting it. I'm beginning to fear for any more real pod
production unless we have a stellar Fall.

That being said, I'm grateful we don't have to suffer the weather
torments the rest of the country is being subjected to. My heart
goes out to everyone under water. That has to be an awful feeling.

I guess our worry here is 'The Big One'. When the Pacific Coast
gets its turn, it will be a doozy.

I have yet to figure out how a group of 6 or more plants, planted in the same medium, given the same goodies, with no variation, do what you have shown above Mr. Gene's pic.

However it does seem to be the yellow colored pod plants. Now the key would be what are they missing?

The pod color is right on according to pic on seed packet.
But those leaves? I mean, really.

The chinenses have taken some positive steps
and are actually greening up a bit

Plus it would be nice if soil dried out a little
quicker ☔️ I think it has something to do with
the cool, wet weather, as well.

Hello Paul. Good to see your still at it. Last year, as well as this year was a bust on plants from your seeds. I still have some more. Elm seed bugs demolished all of them. Weve got a infestation here in Colorado. Didnt even know what they were until last year. Thousands of the little creatures inside and outside the house. Its a constant war.

Anyways, was thinking about you guys and figured I would make a appearance.

Regards,

Chuck

Beautiful azalea. I'm envious. I planted some of that color along the west wall of our house 20 years ago. They haven't thrived since there's zero sunlight in that location.

Sorry about your foul weather Paul. I hope it gets better soon.
Thanks, DW. I don't know about your area, but rhododendrons,
azaleas and roses pretty much grow here naturally.

Peppers, not so much

The weather is not so foul at the moment, but the long range
forecast onaccuweather only shows three days without clouds
for the rest of July.  I suppose there is a silver lining in there
somewhere!

Chuck, good to hear from you, my friend. I hope all is
well with you and your family...

Sorry to hear about the bugs. I haven't heard of them
before, either. Good luck getting around that problem.

I should have some more seeds for you this Fall if you
want the updated generation. I'd like to see you get
another grow going.
Don't be a stranger, pal!

Hi Paul! Nice pod shots you got there my friend! Everything looks good as usual even though the plants seem to be frozen in time due to the crappy weather were having. Tomatoes don't seem to mind! Those F7s are freaking monsters. My plants are in the exact same boat, just kinda.. Stuck. I've lived here my whole life and I'm pretty positive that this is the coolest cloudiest summer and spring we've had in a good 2-3 decades and meanwhile its 90 in Alaska! Wth!  Like you said, it could be a whole helluva lot worse.. Speaking of the "big one" that shaking in Cali and Vancouver has me slightly on edge, been awhile since we've had any rumbling! I'm with you, I'm also starting to fear that any major pod production might not be happening. I think unless August and September are completely full of 80-90 degree sunny days (doubtful) this years gonna be a bit of a bust. Not trying to be a Negative Nathan just being realistic lol.. I know there's a rain dance.... Is there a sun dance? Cause if there is we need to get together and start cutting a rug asap! Lol. Hope all is well with you and the family buddy!

Sometimes I feel bad about the weather we have here in California. So much sun I honestly need to install a shade tarp for the plants.
I missed the recent earthquakes because I was in vacation in Washington state ( so beautiful there I wanna move).

I suppose you left town before we had our mini-quake (4.6) at 2:50 am this morning?
