PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

You are right, Bryan. My main problem is that I don't
have a good place to put my dehydrator, so I have to
bring it in at night, interrupting the drying cycle. So,
things take a long time to dry out.

Looking good Paul!

Thanks, Chuck! Some good and some not so good this season,
but it's always interesting!

I see you've been very busy, that's a huge amount of pods.  looking good!
It could be worse, for sure! I guess there are always
bright spots, but looking at all the unripe pods on the
vines and some cold nights for a spell is a bit disappointing.
I think I will get at least seed pods from just about everything.

I pulled some pods last night in preparation for the cold temps.
Pics to follow.

I'll be interested in hearing your methods of ripening unripe pods.

I dont try to ripen anything that hasnt started to ripen
already, at least a little color.

My preferred method is the banana bag. Put the pods in
a paper sack with a ripening banana and put on a cool
dry space. Check every couple of days. The ethylene given
off by the banana promotes ripening in the pods.

Has been reasonably successful. Gotta watch out for
Any spoilage along the way. You can swap out the banana
If needed.

Hope that wasnt too much information.

Cold nights here for a spell, so took everything
ripe or near ripe off the plants. Still have to pick
a bunch of 7 Pot pods.

No that wasn't too much information Paul. I am a details person. My harvest is sitting in a windowsill. Most of the pods have some ripeness or colouring, but not all. I had a couple pods go bad so far but not that many.

Good luck - I hope you are able speed up their ripening!

If the weather improves a bit after this cold spell,
there may be more ripe pods forthcoming.

Pretty good summary of my sentiments about this season Paul.  Plenty of good things, but I still feel the lost potential.  I did just check the weather and it looks like it will be a little warmer (at least here) for the next week.

Same here, CD. Monthly forecast doesnt look
horrible, a bit cooler than average in spots, but
more normal.I still harvest more pods than I can
use, so I shouldnt complain

Maybe next week we cool down to the mid-80's and get a bit of rain.

Meanwhile, Mobile and Pensacola have already set two all-time record highs for the month of October, daily records every day so far and for most days in September. Every day in September above 90 except one . Now they're calling our rain situation a "flash drought" because of the intense September heat that quickly dried up ponds and killed crops, etc. This is so wrong.

Sure wish we could crossbreed some weather with you guys.
