Dwarf Chiltepin 'Hermosillo', Semillas la Palma 2022

Time to quit dragging my feet and get this season underway.
Last season was OW plants only with two exceptions. This
year I am growing all new plants from seed gathered from
my 2022 harvest and limited to Tepin and Chiltepin varieties.
If the spirit moves me I might try for some OW chinenses
varieties later on.

Most seeds will germinate from 6 to 21 days out.
The majority within two weeks. Some stubborn
types can take longer. Patience is a virtue if you
have room to keep them in the germinators longer.

Starting another round of seeds today. Some repeater no-shows
from round one and some new ones, including some original chinenses
I'm trying to resurrect.

Full list in post #2 of this thread later.

3/8 Distilled Water 24 hrs.

3/9 - dark cells Black Gold mix, others Black Gold peat. Watered in with Rapid Start.

ive only got a 50% germ rate with about hundred seeds, 10 different varieties. Started middle of February.

When do people give up with the seeds that dont show?
I’ve had some super hots like reapers and ghosts pop up after 30 days, I think my longest ever was closer to 35. This year, my reaper seeds from 2018 were the first to pop at 7 days (heat mat set to 81°F) But, as others have mentioned, 7-21 days is pretty normal with a heat mat. The only reason I wait any longer is if it’s a rare variety or down to my last of those seeds.

Good luck with this round, Paul!

hippy seed company mentioned 3-5 weeks for some seeds.

I have had some seeds take 6 weeks ... If they take longer then 3 weeks personally I usually write them off as bunk and shift where they are and change the temperature of the heat mat as a last chance for them. You do sometimes get a surprise... 9/10 you get disappointment 😂
when a seed has that black colour in the centre, is that usually bad sign in your experience?

I have a few seeds that germinated at 38 days this round I planting.
Mostly by accident since germination cells go under the lights
when first seedlings emerge and so have the opportunity for
late germination. Some, like c. flexuosum need more time.

none of my scotch brains have germed so far, planted around valentines day? I wont give up on them though, maybe a couple more weeks? I bought a heating pad from spider farms, the one from amazon lasted several hours and then stopped working. Root zone is about 21-22 deg Celsius or 70 f.

Get your root zone to 25-26C in my opinion for Chinense varieties to germinate well

Hey Paul...Howdy.Have been busy with life,so not much postings...I see you have a nice group of seeds hitting the soil.
Good luck with those..I planted some last year ..the usual suspects ..wiri/galap/flexi among a few others.

For some reason my flexuosum seeds did not germinate...always had a hard time with that one.. happen to be one of my favorite wilds,2nd only to galapagoenese ;)
Happy growing to you and all the WILDIES on THP.

Good to hear from you, friend! Good luck with your wilds
this season. My flex seeds germinated okay, but all
but one was a totally encased helmet head  I have
started a new round, but no stirrings after two weeks.

Second round of germination just about over at 21 days.
Will give the No Shows more time as long as there is room
in the grow shelf. There have been some late bloomers in
the last couple of days, namely Chiltepin Rojo 'Seguin',
Trippaul Threat v2 F3 and Purple Thunder F5. Latest data
in post #2 this thread.

I will try a few more Habanero, c. flexuosum and the other
no-show seeds, along with some tomato seeds in rock
wool cubes on or about April 1. Perfect day for a fool! 😒😂

Time to start transplanting the Round I starts. They are looking
half decent at this point. I'm thinking two or three of each
variety, but we'll see. The idea is to have container plants
and some smaller-pot OW candidates for some indoor
winter growing.
