Peppers Not Hot

My wife planted Fresno chille's and Infurno's in a big pot they are about 12" apart I have picked them in all stages from green to red and the problem we are having is that they taste like sweet peppers they are not hot at all, But I did have just one that was warm and that is it . What could be the problem I am lost. Thanks:(

Welcome, I think it is time for you to move up in heat. Maybe you are getting use to hot stuff. Could be growing conditions too, or they could have been crossed last season?

Sounds like a crossed plant to me. Either that or you're not torturing your plant enough, but even then it should have something noticeable. Welcome to THP from Miami.

Where did the seeds come from? Is it possible the seeds were mislabeled?

You might want to start planting something slightly hotter too.

The peppers you are talking about are warm at best...around 4000 scovilles. Thats less heat than tabasco sauce. Add in cool weather or a lot of water/rain and they might taste sweet.

My Fresnos this year aren't hot either. I grew them from seeds of fresh Fresnos I got at Wegmans Grocery store. They seem to be their hottest when the go from dark red to bright red. The final stage of ripeness I guess. Mine are about the heat of a mild Jalapeno, but still tasty. I might grow one again next year.

I would say it's time to move up a notch or two on the heat scale.

Go for a hot pepper, just use less of it in your foods and when seasoning with it. Have fun experimenting.
