Peter's 2015 Glog

I've started germinating a few seeds for 2015. I'm using the wet paper towel in sandwich bag method for the first time. For each seed type, I soaked the seeds in 3% hydrogen peroxide for one minute, then rinsed before putting on the paper towel. I've got all the bags in a plastic box, sitting on a germination heat mat. I put a half plastic egg carton on the bottom so they won't get too hot.

It looks like a few of the seeds have something white poking out. These are ajijoes Chocolate Hand Grenade Habanero and Pepperlover's Mustard Moruga Scorpion.

I started them on 12/19. I'm going to move any germinated seeds to cups containing Fox Farms Light Warrior. This will be the first time using this as well.

Wow, you have a large grow this season!

Good luck!
Thanks Scott, yeah this is my second year growing from seed. I'm probably overdoing it a bit. :)  I'll definitely need to figure ways to work smarter over harder as the season progresses. Last year kicked my butt, and had way fewer plants. I'm excited though about all the new varieties I'll get to try for the first time.

Another weekly update. Got a bunch more transplanted. Still waiting on Brown Moruga, Datil and Lemon hab to germinate but haven't given up on them.

Yeah, you've got some little beauty queens coming along Peter. Interesting varieties to bhut!

Thanks guys! I asked ajijoe about the purple choc hand grenade. He said he's never seen a purple type and suspects it might have crossed with either his Pimenta Leopard or Fidalga Roxa. It'll be a surprise  :P

Weekly update. So far everything is going well. I lost a three or four to damping off (I think), so I added a second fan. Even though I rotate them around every day, the box fan wasn't getting everything. The new fan oscillates and is set on the other side. I bottom water too, but often times it soaks through to wet the top, probably leaving in too long. The ones that get air dry pretty quickly though.

I have four trays full, with a few on the shelf below waiting to pop up. I know I probably shouldn't, but I think I'll start a few more this week, and that'll be it. Also going to start a few tomatoes and Moringa trees.

Here're a few pics of some of the babies.

I forgot to add a pic, but one of my Brown Morugas came up. Still waiting on Datil and Lemon Hab. I might have done something wrong with them. I don't know. Don't think I'll try to start new ones though.

Plants are looking really good, specially the reaper and the choc hand grenade. bad luck with the damping off. Hopefully ya got some backups of the ones ya lost. Havent heard of the pineapple Rocoto but after a quick google search seems to be a tasty pepper. You had them before?

Thanks man. I have backups of those I lost. It was only a few, and they had just sprouted. The extra fan seems to be helping a lot. Only other thing I think I could really use now is a heater. The cooler temps in my basement are probably slowing growth a little. It's not super cold, but low sixties. Sometimes I run a kerosene heater if I'm down there for a while, but it's not consistent. Also started some low doses of fish fertilizer today, 1 tsp/gal. Maybe that'll help growth some too, without much risk of burning them.

This is my first time growing any rocotos. Really looking forward to trying them. I've never eaten any before either. They look delicious though. From Pepperlover's descriptions the Pineapple and Ecuadorian Red looked easier to grow than some of the other pubescens.

Real nice grow so far and that Albanian red looks like it's going to be a beautiful plant. Curious to see what you get out of the choc hand grenade.

Thanks. Yeah, I love how that Albanian red looks, wish I could find pics of a mature plant. I have a feeling it's going to get huge. I'll keep posting updates on the choc hand grenade progress. I'll try not to love it to death.

How long ago did you get the Choc hand grenade seeds? I got some from joe last spring , wondering if I should try cracking a few beans and see what sprouts. Last year the one plant I did grow showed only green colors.

I got them from him this past December. The purple one is only one like that out of six that I started. How were the pods on the one you grew out, flavor/heat wise?

I never got any, I started too late in the year and the plant never did very well compared to other ones I was growing. Why I hadn't even tried growing it this year yet.

Weekly update:
Not a whole lot of growth from last week, but some. I'm going to start running a heater down there soon, should help a little. Here are some pics.

Found this guy poking around too. I've seen a pic of this kind of insect posted on here before, I think, but I don't remember what it is exactly. Looks like one of the true bug type bugs like stink bug, assassin bug, etc...
