Peter's 2015 Glog

I've started germinating a few seeds for 2015. I'm using the wet paper towel in sandwich bag method for the first time. For each seed type, I soaked the seeds in 3% hydrogen peroxide for one minute, then rinsed before putting on the paper towel. I've got all the bags in a plastic box, sitting on a germination heat mat. I put a half plastic egg carton on the bottom so they won't get too hot.

It looks like a few of the seeds have something white poking out. These are ajijoes Chocolate Hand Grenade Habanero and Pepperlover's Mustard Moruga Scorpion.

I started them on 12/19. I'm going to move any germinated seeds to cups containing Fox Farms Light Warrior. This will be the first time using this as well.

Thanks Plantguy! I need to post some updates, been in maintenance mode. Have a drip system in place, hope to get some video of it up soon. Seem to be having a problem with tomato horn worms. Found the third one this morning. So now I'm doing daily patrols. All you can really look for is the droppings, cause they are pretty much invisible otherwise.

Can you see anything wrong here?

I've had them getting on my tomato plants but have had them before on my pepper plants as well they can strip a plant in no time if left un checked
That horn worm got what he deserved !
I like it when the beneficial wasp gets them a slow death heehee
It took some looking but I finally spotted him in the first picture even when you think you got them all there can be some you missed .
I thought I got all of them on my Paul Robeson but found two big ones the next day ugh

Quick update from today, some plant and pod pics. I was freaking out a little earlier about a few pods being nasty brown on the inside. Not sure what's causing it. The plants and pods look healthy otherwise. Going to not worry about it for now.

Here's a shot of my container plants on the new drip system. From this angle, you can't see them all, but there's about 50 in there, four rows 18" apart.

Garden shot, you can see where I've started implementing a weave method for support. I wanted to use rebar, but it's so expensive. So far this PVC seems to be doing fine.

Peter I had my first ripe Peach BJ SS it was a short & stuby one first pod I seen true peach color in.
The sad thing is it had blossom end rot so had to be pitched .
You might be getting some BER in your pods as well I know mom has had it happen this year as well.
Best of luck on your grow peter

Jason,
I suspect some BER as well, had to pitch a few Bell of Lebanon and Joe's Long pods, and few other here and there. Suspecting maybe calcium deficiency since I didn't add any bonemeal to my container plants like I did with the in ground plants. I recently started dosing the containers with some Cal Mag through my drip system. When that runs out, and if needed I'll probably switch to epsom salt and Smokemaster's Witch's Brew. It's probably about time to give all the plants their second does of 14-14-14 osmo too. I might not have enough left to hit all of them with a full dose, so will give the garden plants first dibs, then split the remainder with everything else that's on the drip system. I have a fresh bag of Maxi Bloom that I can use to supplement those later if I have to.

Few harvest pics from yesterday.

I could have sworn those banana peppers looked yellower outside. Planning to pickle all these anyway.

Everything looks great! I did that same thing last year with my yellow banana peppers. Got them inside and they were still green. Lol. That 7 pot Rennie-Chocolate looks delicious! I love brown pods. You've got a great corking going on with the farmers market jal. That rocoto looks tasty, too. I've never grown a pubescens. Are they difficult to grow and/or do they need a long season? Keep up the good work!

-Adam

Thanks Adam, yeah this is my first year growing pubescens. Have both Ecuadorian Red and Pineapple Rocotos growing. Both podded up early and have lots of fruit. I think a lot of pubes have a longer growing season, although I started these around late December. Pepperlover's site said they were some of the easier ones to grow.

Wow! That's not too long. I started most of my Chinense strains in January, so December sounds do-able. Thank you for letting me know. I hope my Madballz 7 gets pods as beefy as yours. Mine are still small and a very pale yellow, but they're starting to get bumpy. The rocoto look great! I'd never know it was your first year growing them.

Thanks! I'm excited about trying the Madballz 7. I saw a mature plant on a youtube Jim Duffy posted, and it looked like a beast, and very prolific. Wicked Mike gave me the seeds for this one I'm growing.

Garden update from a couple days ago. Sorry for some of the upside down camera views, lol.

So I ate this Devil's Heart last night...
DBMrfSUl.jpg

It tasted 7-Pot-ish and floral, wasn't bad. The heat was insanely intense though. I think it's the kind of pod that could easily make someone panic if they weren't expecting it. It really gripped the throat. I made it through the mouth and throat burn okay, and didn't get sick. Then the stomach pains started, coming and going. I tried drinking milk, it seemed to help a little but not much or with any lasting relief. After about 45 minutes I made myself gag, just to get it out of my stomach. After that I felt fine.

I had eaten a sandwich beforehand but I guess it wasn't enough, or wasn't the right kind of food to really help. The next time I do a whole pod, my pre-pod meal will have some oil, something along the lines of Nigel Carter's elixir

I'll try to do a video review of the next one, have quite a few of the Devil's Heart pods turning ripe now.

Here's a nice Primo placenta pic.

Often times when I have them, I'll cut peppers at work and set out for anyone who wants to try. Usually don't get too many takers though  :(

I made a sauce tonight from pods I picked this week.  It's based on a SmokenFire recipe he posted here. I really like how it tastes, not sure what to call it yet. It has a medley of several peppers ranging in heat from mild to ultra hot. It has Rosemary Peppers, Hot Fingers, Ecuadorian Red Rocotos, Hand Grenade Habs, Red Not Bahamian Goats, a few Devil's Hearts, and one 7-Pot Primo. I smoked them with Pecan wood first.

It's been a great year, I've learned a lot. Need to start thinking about which plants I want to hang on to for next year. I'm really, really behind on harvesting, processing, preserving. I have frozen and dried quite a bit, but there's a lot left. I guess it's a good problem to have. I'm not complaining.
