Hi! I will be chronicling my pepper plants throughout the season, it has been a very long cold spring in CA so they are just getting rolling.
I have pods on a couple of the early ones. I was far too busy with school to deal with seeds, so these are all starters from local nurseries.
My list consists of:
Hot Cherry
Cajun Belle
Manzano 'Amarillo'
Ethiopian Brown Berbere
Caribbean Red
Jamaican Hot Chocolate
Chiltepin
Thai Dragon
Thai Hot 'Giant Red'
Thai Ornamental
Cayenne 'Long Slim'
Aleppo
Hungarian Hot Wax
Poblano
Big Jim
Fresno
Anaheim
Serrano
Jalapeno (Jumbo, regular, and 'ixtapa')
Chili de Arbol
I top-pruned a number of the peppers to experiment so take note of that if you are interested in seeing the results (which vary greatly from plant to plant).
Here are a few pics to get it started
Cherries
This Ornamental suffered a rough drought stress with a recent 5-1-1 watering mistake, but it has bounced back to full. Aleppo on the right.
Cajun Belle in the lead
Due to this long cold spring, my container peppers are forging ahead, probably because their roots can warm up more quickly with the sun.
I will be faced with the challenge of keeping the potted ones alive through the hot summer fairly soon, but they are superior up to now. It will be
interesting to see which plants are more successful throughout the entire season, basically two seasons here in central CA.
More to come.
