Plastic woozys

Unless you have a supplier locally woozy bottles can get expensive... or well... shipping can get expensive. Are there any methods of packing into plastic woozy bottles? Could you use a no rinse solution, and pack your high acid recipe at just below 190 or at the highest temp the plastic bottle will resist?

There are chemical sterilization techniques suitable for plastic; however, please understand that plastic will breath. Not a lot but it doesn't take much to spoil a 2 year ferment. You will likely want to stick with glass. I also heard of deterioration of the cheap bottles.

Please understand that I am NO expert but I've been looking into it myself.

when I looked into it a few years ago, the supplier said to not pack over 180F, which is the absolute minimum temp the process authorities will allow. So the sauce should be packed at exactly180F so as to not melt the plastic and still maintain proper temp. Most non-commercial packers can't maintain that tight of temperature control.

If the sauce as an extremely low pH, the process authority might allow the sauce to be packaged at below 180F, but that would be up to the AHJ.

Some suppliers offer deals every now and then for free shipping.

I am aware that a lot of plastics are O2 permeable but I would imagine those made to contain food products would not be. I believe the real issue would be temperature. Looks like I am going to have to give in and order glass.

I bottle the small plastic woozies, 1.66 ounce, at 190,with a air gap between bottles while bottling, but if it gets any hotter the bottle warps. The 5 oz woozies seem to warp quicker. Glass is the way to go!
