Popper toys

I found a great bargain on some popper toys for the grill, only 10 bucks with a corer included.
They were cheap, so I grabbed two and just had them delivered today.
I can't wait to give these a performance test.

Those look like they will be great. I know at my house, they would be used all of the time and standing up the popper is a lot better than laying them down. Can't wait to see them in action.

Hell of a deal SS. Thanks for sharing.

Now I'm $27 poorer of course, so ... ... I take it back. Why'd you have to go and post this? Huh? :shame:

great bargain...good find SS

Nice score. What is the diam. of the holes? I hear that some can't hold the big jalapenos used for ABT's. It's my understanding that "Poppers" are deep fried, and ABT's are smoked or grilled. Interesting use of the term. I hope they work out for you, sure looks like it would be a handy gadget, and easy to clean too.

The holes are a fuzz over 1 inch @ 26mm. They'll hold a fair sized peno and remember the peppers shrink some during cooking, so if you use some that are borderline just run them thru with a toothpick at hole level.
BTW, not "all" poppers are deep fried. :)

NOW ya tell me. Thanks ever so much SS.
It's printed in large type on the linked page. You must not frequent Amazon? :P
I just added "We Were Soldiers" Blu Ray for $10.99 to the order to reach the free freight goal. :)

If they are not battered deep fried, then they are not truly poppers. Go to any restaurant that serves poppers, and they are battered and deep fried. I've never seen them prepared any other way in a restuarant. If they are grilled or smoked or oven baked without any batter, then they are ABT's. That's the definition within the BBQ circle. I didn't make this up, it came long before me. In any event, they are a tasty ttreat.

Wow nice find, I had some ABT's at the KCBS Lancaster competition and they where amazing. I was lucky enough to get a tip on the filling. Now all I need is a few rack and I'll be ready to go!

can someone please enlighten me as to what an ABT is?

Thanks for posting this SS I am going to have to get me one of them.

Ciao Silver Surfer-

Duane got something like what you have for Father's Day. It has less holes and is shaped like a pepper, kind of cute, with a nice twisty corer. The holes are the same size as yours, so thank you for the tip about running a toothpick or bamboo skewer through them to help them stay upright. Duane likes to use Billy Bikers for his poppers and wrap with bacon so that makes them pretty fat. Yours has a nice large capacity, though. I had NO idea that poppers could be so addicting. He never seems to make enough of them and we're really going to miss them once the Billy Bikers are done producing for the season. Have any of you tried making the poppers and freezing them, then thawing and grilling? Freezing cheese is always an iffy thing.

I haven't thought of freezing any cause all of my penos seem to vanish pretty quickly around here and have resorted to using some Chinense pods to slow consumption a little. ;)

Maybe with 50/50 cheese meat the freezing would work OK, but I agree frozen cheese alone doesn't work well.

I'll miss these this winter and am holding off on picking my final peno crop b4 the first freeze.
