Post Your Aji Amarillo For a Prize

In an effort to pass along some great seeds to grow, I have devised this contest. Post pics of your aji amarillo plants with pods, and/or harvested aji amarillo pods from this year (2016), and you will be sent some aji pacay seeds. Aji pacay is a sub cultivar of aji amarillo, but much larger, and absolutely delicious. Post your pics here, and the seeds will be sent your way. Contest ends on November 10th, or until I run out of seeds.

Aji pacay compared to aji amarillo.

One of my Amarillos.  (Getting visited by a very friendly Bishop's Hat...)

I've got a fair selection of other baccatum, probably 25~30 varieties.  Holler if you're interested in a trade.   :)

-Thanks!

Dang...I already tore my plants out a couple weeks ago...I'm sure that a chopped down and potted plant is not what your looking for :(

I will say however that I seriously need to reevaluate the spacing needs for mine. They were over 5'feet tall and about 3.5 feet in diameter...and that was in a single Michigan grow season!!!

Man I need to move to a more lengthy growing season location!

You don't have any pics? The reason I put in the requirement for aji amarillo pics, is so that growers that already have experience growing it can give a shot growing aji pacay. Aji pacay has the same growing needs as aji amarillo, but an even longer growing time is required to get ripe pods. I figured experienced aji amarillo growers would have greater success with this cultivar. Also, aji pacay plants get way huger than aji amarillo plants. One of my aji pacay plants was well over 7' tall in a 5 gallon root pouch.

Hey, I was cleaning house and 'found' your package of Pacay and assorted Rocoto seeds behind the microwave. (It's best not to dwell on the subject of my housekeeping!)

Seeds of Aji Oro, Aji Limo Rojo, Mini Rocoto Red, Ecuadorian Red Rocoto and, of course!, Aji Pacay will get into my seed germinator ASAP!

Thanks again!  :)

Speaking of Aji Pacae...

Beautiful sea of Baccatum!

I'm pretty sure that pacay/pacae spellings are pretty interchangeable. Pacay is a fruit bearing tree, with elongated pods like an aji Pacae/pacay. One of the most thorough guides to Peruvian ajis that I've read does reference them as aji pacae, though.

I am growing it as Aji Pacae, and not Pacay, but have seen both spellings. Hoping the flavor doesn't disappoint. I have always been a fan of Amarillo.
The flavor definitely doesn't disappoint. Get ready for a looooong ripening time. Well worth it in the end, though.

I have a friend from Peru who asked me if I could grow some Aji Amarillo since she couldn't get native peppers from Peru in our area.

I bought seeds online, grew them and turned out they weren't the right damn pepper lol.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd pay trade, or otherwise barter, for just a few of these seeds.  She's given up on me, and I'd like to surprise her at the end of the season with a bunch :)

Sure man, drop me a PM, and I'll send some seeds your way from these isolated aji amarillo plants.

Aji pacay/pacae is the large orange pod on the far left. Good peppers. Less spicy, and much more sweet than a normal aji amarillo. Also, much larger pods.
