1/23/12 After 3 days of neglect while I was out of town. Tray sat on a table near south facing window. Not what they needed but it kept them alive. I used my 15 minutes of free time for the week and hung a light for them.

Sil... seems like pro and cons to having low humidity. For my limited experience it helps me I think. Less chance for diseases and keeps soil dry. I think my lighting was a bit strong and stunted the plants alittle also. My goal was nothing more than to keep everything healthy and have respectable plants to put out in may. It's a marathon not a sprint right? Good luck to you also.

Strong lighting stunting plants? ......Sunburn, or Bulb-burn can damage the plants if the plants are not conditioned. Extreme heat can also cause a slow down, but a strong light source is most benificial.
Did you switch your light source? When I change from Flouros to Metal Halides I keep the plants at a considerable distance for about a week to acclimate them to the intense light and heat. I've been known to "burn" a few tips before.
Some plants are more delicate than others. Especially the "Manzanos and Rocotos". They prefer less heat and seem to flourish better with less intense light.
Another problem can occur when switching over to a completely different soil mix. Sometimes plants just don't care for it.
The best method when replanting anything, from the indoor grow to outdoor transplants from peppers to landscaping shrubs is to always re-introduce some of the plants soil with either the new medium or the soil from the ground. Mix both together and add to the planting hole or nursury container.
Post some photos of your plants..........I bet they look fine!

I should have worded that better. Lighting was too close to plants. They are healthy as hell but they had alittle more than purpling.
I dont plan on switching lighting for a good while and I will be cautious when doing so. Two big factors are temps and lighting. They only get 16 hours a day and that is only 5 days a week. I am out of town on weekends and don't want to come home and find a burnt home. Night temps are low.. 64°.. I am sure those are reasons for the slow growth. It boils down to my lack of patience. Thanks for all your insight.

Looking good bro the seedlings are looking nice and strong so far.

Trip I hope my pod pics will be half as nice as yours in a few months.

Not much to update as far as peppers. Started some annuums and about 150 flowers. The gubment gives me more money for more babies correct?

These are some "window" plants that get daylight and a CFL light a couple hours a night sometimes..... maybe... ok rarely.

This plant was in experimental soil and almost checked out on me. Changed the soil and it is going off.

Some later starts... These things went 5 days with no lighting while I was out of town. They are bouncing back. Gave them a mix of flouros and sunlight this weekend.

Great looking plants! No light for 5 days and still going strong! Yet another soil experiment gone wrong! You doctored it up nicely though!

Keep the pics flowing,
Shane

Hey J.B.

Plants are looking really good. Nice mix of sun and artifical lighting. You'll be ready when the outdoor planting happens. I missed my update this weekend, spring break for the kids and I'm putting up some temporary cold frames. Not much for me to update on, but I thought I check ot yours and a few others.
It's upbeat to see everyones progress, what kind of flowers are you sowing?

They had whatever light can come through 2- 2'x2' basement windows. Sorry... I meant no artificial lights. Thanks for viewing Shane.

Nice to see the mix of daylight and a couple of hours of artificial is working well. I'll be switching to this soon as I run out of room for 100% artificial.

Thanks Greg.. They are further behind than I want but I didn't think I would even be growing a few months back. I basically have 20 minutes free time a week so the fact that they are alive is a big bonus. I should get some pods but it will just be later in the year.
I planted zinnia, gerbera, gazania.... Nothing special. You have inspired me to start some coleus this fall.

We have been lucky with a lot of sunshine for window growing this year. North Atlantic is usually gloomy in the winter. My plants in the basement get sporadic lighting so it is hard to say if a mix is better. I will be making some cfl lights with the vanity bars ,and more t8s.. I tried t5s this year and they are not for me. Thanks for taking time to view.

looking healthy bro .... that 20mins is obviously a quality 20mins because they look great. long may it continue.

Crazy weather here... 72° today with a slight breeze. Only 10 hours at the office today so I decided to baby the kids. Not much to update but this weather has me pumped up.

Hope this video works. I never posted one before. Some of the lucky plants that made it out today. Hopefully I can get more out tomorrow calling for 76°.

Nice! Glad the weather is letting them get a sun tan today! Those flowers are gorgeous!

Take care,
Shane

Thanks Shane... Hoping to get them out again today. I'm not naive enough to think this weather is going to last, but trying to make some time to spoil the plants.

Hey Lookin awesome! Plants look pretty happy to be catching some of that late afternoon sun shine! Hope that weather trend holds for ya!

A little update... Plants are growing alittle better. These are in 5.5" square pots.

Temps have been crazy here and my plants have been getting some natural sun. Keeping my fingers crossed I don't pick up any pests.

Awesome update! Looks like your rockin pretty strong! Your window plant is also lookin good. Ive got a window pepper as well. Do you notice its leaves to be a lighter green than your plants under the lights or is it about the same?

Those 5.5" pots are coming along nicely, and the plant "with a view" the Primo sure appears healthy for only 1 feeding! That one should get potted up and a good canidate for your MH lighting. Then you'll really see some huge floppy leaves...
Good luck with the upcoming weather. If you're getting what we've been having then you're in for a treat......18,36 ....oh just make it 72 rounds of golf!..........hehe

Greg

Yes I notice that Bee. I was guessing it was the lack of feeding but maybe just because of weak winter light. I notice the color getting darker as the sun gets stronger. Thanks for viewing. How is the weather over there?

Yes... We are getting high 70s right now until Friday. Then a frigid 66. My golf game has taken a huge "hit" with this new hobby. It is more relaxing and 1/64 the cost. The halide has been fired up. I am curious to see the results.
