1/23/12 After 3 days of neglect while I was out of town. Tray sat on a table near south facing window. Not what they needed but it kept them alive. I used my 15 minutes of free time for the week and hung a light for them.

the reason i asked is i took some seeds form a supposed Choc hab X Red hab pod and planted the seeds and the plant look almost identical to that picture check it out.

Spongey that plant is different than mine. The leaves on the Thai ornamental don't really get any bigger than they are in that pic. It will get alittle taller and shrub out big time.

Damn I'm jealous, that's some amazing looking plants! Keep posting :)

Thanks slash... No reason to be jealous. I am just lucky these plants take very little care.

Great update pr0d! The plants look really good. Those chinense? look
really healthy. A lot of my annuums have those root nodules on the low
stem. Plant those under ground and the roots will shoot out!
My chinense are branching too but I think that is some type of wild. I will have to look. Thanks for stopping in. You have become maniacal with this hobby... I love it. One of the good guys here.

I hear you. When given the chance I can just sit and stare at my seedlings indefinitely imagining what they're going to look like, the crosses I want to make etc...

Spice... You are like a mad scientist. Remember me when you find the cure for cancer in a bhut. I may need you in my quest to become "dependently" wealthy.

The 400w halide is a magnetic ballast. I opted for the cheap open reflector. Mine is in my basement and no grow tent so no need for fancy hoods and vents. I don't believe there is any magic nute, light, soil. A tiny bit...in my case very tiny bit of sense goes a long way. That being said I have noticed a very big difference since changing to the halide lamp. I am getting major branching and undergrowth. Leaves are getting larger also. Now is that due to their age, nutes, and higher humidity? *shrugs* I am very new to this but I have to say the light is helping a lot. For the price it is worth grabbing one to tinker with. Mine was around $125 with the crap reflector.
How much juice does it pull? I have been thinking about next year/over winter, but have to consider the electric bill.

How much juice does it pull? I have been thinking about next year/over winter, but have to consider the electric bill.

A 400-watt bulb would use 1 kWh each 2.5 hours it's on. For 16 hours that would be 6.4 kwh. Find out how much your electric provider charges per kilowatt-hour and multiply that by the total number of kwh used. I wouldn't overwinter plants with it unless you want to keep them growing. My plan was to use it for the last 20-30 days before plant out but I got impatient. I used 16 hours just for an example. Not sure if that is 100% correct because I don't pay attention. Should give you some idea. Probably pay less than a dollar a day.

Frustrating camera night for me. Plants are happy though.

This is a plant raised on window light and a plant raised on proper lighting and a fan. Can you guess which is which?

Getting buds on a lot of the plants. I will be scanning the pinch or not pinch threads pretty soon to see which way I am going to go. Any comments on pinching is welcomed. This guy is keeping all of his.

Great plants you got there, Pr0digal_son. I did pinch out the buds in the beginning, but then more and more plants started to form them and it was pretty useless imo. Since they just formed new ones pretty quickly. So I leave them on from now on.

Don't know if it makes a difference or not, if a plant is still a little too underdeveloped I do pinch them though. Most of the time if the plant isn't ready it'll drop them on its own, but if it is ready you can pinch every day and still keep finding more.

Its amazing what kind of growth you can generate with the right lights and conditions. I'm new to the indoor thing and am stunned at how much better growth you can get. At first I was in a big hurry to get them outside into the real sunlight...now I find myself bringing in the ones that are struggling to get them up and running again.

Great looking plants my friend! Keep the pics flowing,
Shane

Plants look awesome! I think i pinched about half and have with my plants and honestly cant tell the difference between them except the ones i didnt pinch have a few pods or none at all because the flowers dropped off. One plant had all its flowers drop and it was one that i thought was ready. So who knows. But i think i have joined the school who says its in a chinesese and has forked then its ok to flower. Best of luck with what ever you decide!

Thanks guys. I pinched buds off of annuums that weren't strong enough to hold big pods. The Chinense maybe I wil do some tests. I notice they are more turgid from seedling to mature adult.

Looking good bro. How long before plant out?

Regarding cost of lighting a general rule of thumb in 2005-2006 (I know it has gone up since but i am unsure how much) running anything @400 watts (computer psu, lights etc) on a 24hr cycle cost approximately $1 dollar a day. So I think $1 a day on 16hrs for today's prices would be a good estimate.

You've got more green going on in that group than the Emerald Forest.
I pinch the early flowers off the annuums. The lower peppers would just be dragging in the dirt. As far as the chinense I let them run the course. If the plant produces pods the branching will continue, some varieties take longer than others to ripen. If the flowers drop on their own then it wasn't meant to be. My vortex fans whip the plants around, any flowers left on will most likely pollinate.
My electric bills are higher than I'd like but that's the downfall with powering up around 5k of lighting plus a dehumidifier and the rest of the winter draw. That's why I sell plants to help offset my hobby.
Your plants are starting to thrive. Can't wait to see the harvest photos.

Greg

This is most likely my last update til mid may unless I do something crazy and wipe everything out. The hard part is over and it's basically on cruise control now.

*shaking fist* Curse you wretched lighting! Guam Boonie

Chris' twisted chocolate habanero. This was a late start. Big leaves and growth is stacked and compact.

AKA Douglah? How many are you growing? I'm keeping an eye on plants of mine that put out so many buds like that. I like to think this is a trait I can select for...

Hey, pr0d, your plants are really looking good!
Love those big, green leaves! The choco 7 is a great photo!

Amazing plants Prod! Sad to hear you are putting in on cruise for a month. Love looking at your plants, but know what you're talking about. Like waiting for water to boil over here. Nice to find an open flower every now and then...won't be long and we'll both be seeing pods! Looking forward to your next update brother!
