Printers for iMacs

I'm going shopping for a new printer tomorrow. I have an old Canon i850 that's past it's 5 years of life. I'm looking at maybe another Canon. Maybe a Pixma. Any suggestions out there?
 
For what type of printing? Photos or documents? I use color laser, but they're not good for photos.

For documents/displays/presentations get a color laser, I really hate ink jet except for photos.
 
Also does your Imac have OS 10 on it... I ran into this problem for my moms computer.. all new printers require OS 10 or higher.

Sadly moms has OS 8 & will not run OS 10
 
I'm printing mainly documents and pictures and I have a 10 year old daughter, so who knows what's being printed. The old one's an ink jet and worked OK. The laser printers get a bit pricey, right?

No, lasers are affordable these days, but if you want an all-purpose home printer (documents and photos) go ink jet. I don't print out photos, so I'm all about the color laser. Great printer if you're going to do labels, brochures, whatever.
