Ready For Spring.. Peppers Started

Thank goodness for the feeling that spring should be right around the corner. I can't deal with another foot of snow and these 50+ degree (F) days have been wonderful.

Anyway, this year's peppers should be much more abundant this year thanks to PepperLovers pleasant selection and the few I dehydrated for this year's crop. Both have yeilded at or new 100% germination without presoaking or special songs or chants. Jusr plop in the dirt and leave em be under the couch for a week.

And now, after nearly 2 months, they're looking great. I got impatient and set up my christmas present greenhouse in my computer/dog room.

Anytime the house feels a little cold I just have to stick my head in this and enjoy the heat. I just need a more permanent location for the fan to keep the air moving.

And here's the peppers.

The Purple Jolokias have been growing like weeds. The left one started growing up into the lights before I could get the new pots ready. But, for now he's a little crooked.

My first collection.

Bih Jolokia, Dorset Naga, Bhut Jolokia Indian Carbon, Scorp Butch T, Scorp Yellow, Scorp Red, Early Jalapeno, Giant Jalapeno, Sweet Cayenne, Tabago Seasoning, Indian PC, Chili de Abro, Bombay Morich, Yellow 7, Hab Red, Hab Orange, Red Savina, Bhut Jolokia Brown, PI 260595, Bhut Jolokia, Jamacain, Lemon Drop, Tabasco

And lastly, pretty much all the same as above with some tomatoes included. I hab my 12 yr old nephew do these ones since he's really into gardening now too. All but the PI260595 have germinated and I killed some of the tomatoes (whoops).

Here's to spring. Get here soon!

How come I cant read your posts without doing the Meatwad voice in my head!

Seriously those plants look really nice Napalm!

And I thought I might be starting some too soon, when I started them in January. When did you start those?

Looks like someone got an early start and I just started mine last week. They look great; you should have a good season. I like your little green house. My wife and I have been looking at some larger models, but with some home construction jobs coming up that could be a nice starter unit for now.

Good luck, Jack

Yea I started waaay early. I just couldn't wait any longer. My first peppers germinated on Dec 23rd. I planted them Dec 20th.

I started the second wave 2 weeks ago. A third batch will be done in early March.

The greenhouse is a wonderful starter model. Surprising sturdy as well and fits right in the corner of the room.

Keeps mine out. But my cat's fat and wouldn't have a prayer crawling under the fabric. But it does have ties and stakes for when I put it outside. I wouldn't rely on it keeping out wild critters though.

Trimmed back the seedlings today. Apparently 3 seeds to a pot to my nephew meant 11 or 12, lol.

How do you find that specific greenhouse? I think I've seen the exact same one at one my local nurseries, and I'm thinking of buying one.

I just want to make sure I get something that the plastic doesn't rip like the cheapo ones I've had previously.

I got it from my mother in law. She orderred it from some catalogue, not sure which. I have yet to find out what brand it is. The fabric feels sturdy, but my only fear is hail.. And I hope it's never realized.

Not saying YOURS is the same one, but there are some on Ebay that look EXACTLY like that for $60, shelves and all. I am thinking of doing that next year myself. But, it will stay indoors. I just need to keep my plants down in the basement. I just dont have the room any more up here...

Ya, things are coming along nicely, and in that last pic those plants seem to be doing well in what looks like Jiffy peat pellets. And that greenhouse looks perfect for a spare room or basement, it's even supporting those two sets of lights. That's giving me ideas for next year.

Looks like an ideal plant list to me too, and yes, can't wait for spring to arrive!

Good luck with your 2011 grow.

Hot Pooper FYI: other sellers have that greenhouse for less btw, the lowest i found was from ebay merchant finaldeal_com for $48.99 shipped (ebay item # 290495946506), and the clear plastic ones for $44. He has a few up for auction and possibly going for less. I bet a person can easily line the insides with some mylar...hmm.

Repotted my first batch, reset the lighting, and labelled em all. Took forever but is well worth it.

They're coming along great. Making the chains adjustable on the fly helps a great deal.
