If I remember right he'd been diagnosed a long time ago and things looked dire for him, then. 
 
I'm glad he got as many more years as he did.

Totally sucks .... I was a college guy in the late 70s.  Partied many nights listening to Eddie and the guys.  Going to crank it tonight ..... but kind of a wake up call.

There was a kid in my neighborhood who's parents were so religious he wasn't allowed to listen to Van Halen because of the song 'Runnin' w/ the Devil'.  
 
He would by VH's albums and stash them at his friends houses so he wouldn't get into trouble.

So sad. We have lost some great guitarists in my lifetime...Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ronnie Montrose, Gary Moore, Randy Rhodes. All influences of mine growing up playing guitar. Born in 1961 so I've seen some of the greatest bands of all time.
