color Ripening: Green to Yellow/Orange in 24 hours

Just a curiosity. I don't remember ever paying as much attention to my plants as I have this season, but I'd of never got a chance to whitness this if I didn't. One of the smallest peppers on my Fatalii started ripening on Memorial day. This morning it was fully yellow/orange.

Is the process normally this fast?
 
I know there have been times where I've been surprised to see several ripe pods on a plant seemingly overnight, witnessing this lends a little credence to a few of my speculations.
