Robisc 2013 Alabama grow

OK guys, this is my second year growing from seed and let’s hope this year goes better than last year as it was a disaster all the way around, though I have learned a lot from all of you folks here. The seeds below are what I started a few days ago and I got them from the folks here (in parentheses) so I’m certain that they will be better than the ones I got last year from unknown sources. My setup is simple, this time I am using Jiffy Mix organic seed starter mix, under my trays I have some homemade heating made with Christmas lights under clay cat litter, the soil temp stays around 82 degrees, none of the seeds have made it up out of the soil yet so still waiting, these were planted on the 9th, I will try and keep this updated as I go.

Yeah, they should be bigger. Later today I'll post some pictures taken yesterday of mine, which were planted on 2/11. Does your mix have nutrients in it? Mine sat like yours for a few days until I started feeding them. Gave them something to eat (1/4-1/8 standard strength) and they took off right away.
would like to see your pics and as for nutrients in the soil, I don't have it in front of me so I am not sure but am going to move them up into bigger pots this evening into miracle gro soil and see if that makes a difference.

When you move out of the jiffy mix into the miracle grow potting mix they will take off. I moved mine when they hit 2 good leaves into coffee cups or red solo and they have all done very well. Hopefully the weather will actually warm up for both of us pretty sooon. I'm in NE Arkansas with a very cold March this year.

i upsized the containers on about half of my plants this weekend so we'll see if that helps, I used Miracle Gro potting mix, mixed in some perlite and bone meal, also watered them in with a weak solution of Alaska fish emulsion fertilizer, it's 5-1-1, so just hope that they take off, I don't have the other lights up yet in this picture.

I got my first sprout on feb 15 and this pic was taken march 13. Im using Fox Farms ocean forrest and happy frog soil with worm castings and a 2 ft t5 light with 6400k bulbs. Itsucks that you didnt get similar growth but is sounds like you have done the right thing and time will tell now. hope all goes well

They do look a bit small for their age. I second the notion of giving them a light feed. Your moisture problems early on may have stunted them. I'll bet they have just developed a strong root system and will start growing rapidly any day now.

Try a foliar feed at 1/4 strength of fish ferts, sea kelp or worm tea. I'm sure you will see almost instant results. Good luck!

I guess better late than never for a response. You can check out this post in my glog to see what mine looked like a few days ago. Mine have really stalled out lately due to inadequate light and temperatures. Hopefully this current cold snap will be the last and I can start moving them out for good soon. I got spoiled by last spring when we didn't have a frost after some time in March.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I just have been way disappointed in their grow rates this year, they are all over 2 months old now. Here is a picture I just took of a Scotch Bonnet, they do look much better since the upgrade to their housing and the fertilizer feeding though but still way behind some of you guys, I'll mark it down as a learning experience for next year though, different soil to start with.

I'm still thinking the problem may be insufficient light. Mine grew very well under 3 2-bulb T12 shoplights with a mix of color temperatures. When I repotted them to 3.5" square pots and moved them to a (rarely) sunny window with only a little supplemental side lighting, they stalled out. It's been a lot cooler in that area, too. For the most part I'm ok with that, since I'm still a ways from plant out.

Well here's my latest update, they've been outside for about 2 weeks now, they are looking much better but still way behind where they should be as compared to some of you guys. just waiting on getting them in the ground, we have been flooding and coiol temps here in north Alabama and it's supposed to be record breaking cold next week too, so gonna be a late garden this year.

They are looking real nice!!! looks like they are loving that sun

After a cool wet spring and being way behind in many ways I finally got 17 different varieties "planted", I went with straw bales this year and now I'm gonna see how that goes, here's a pic after getting them
relocated on Saturday.

Well just to update, the hornworms pillaged some of my plants and I've been at war with them but they're finally annhilated, that last pic of the black stinger in my last post was one hit hardest, it looks like it is gonna survive though, it is starting to grow new leaves as seen here.
