RocketMan's Sauce - And Now For Something Completely Different

My daughter has a friend that has been after me to develop a sauce that uses an, well lets just say an ingredient not normally used in hot sauces. Now after researching it a bit I know why, It's a real b***h to use in sauces. So any way I have been thinking on this for a while and I just about have an idea on how to use it. Here's the catch, in the picture, shall we say teaser, below is the "Mystery" ingredient along with 3 other ingredients that should be easy to identify. Ok, so the mystery ingredient is aso easy, at least to me it is. So, the first person to correctly identify the 4 items pictured will get a bottle of the new sauce along with a bottle of the first sauce I ever made by fermentation and still wheebz most favorite, Haba-peno.

Also I'm looking for a name for the new sauce so if you want to take a shot at a name for the new one, if I pick the name, you too will get the 2 bottles of sauce.

Here's the pic, have fun.

Sorry I didn't see your original post until this morning... I spotted the plantain and horseradish right away (I've grown Horseradish before), but I know very little about C. Chinense chiles and couldn't hazard a guess as to which variety anyway.
+1 on Frydad's idea of "War Horse" as a name for the sauce. Cheers!

Yeah, I like the horse ideas too. I just kept drawing a blank and coming up with the, ok rally lame names. There, admitting the problem is the first step in fixing it they say :)

I've actually been working on this idea for a while now. A friend of my daughters at college who had the opportunity to taste some of my sauces, asked her to see if i could come up with one using horseradish. The idea peeked my interest and at first i was thinking about using fresh Wasabi both the leaves which are really good and the raizome. The only problem is that the ingredient that gives it the burning bite is really short lived so I wasn't sure how it would do over the life of the sauce. I was in Publix the other day and saw that giant piece of horseradish and desiced to pick up what I had been considering to begin work on it. Really love developing new and outlandish, original sauces and I'm having a blast with this one so I though I'd invite other's in on the fun and get soem assistance with the name.

FD - Love those 2 names, never even dawned on me

Anyone else?

Another Idea I had was since you used green chiles and horseradish, you could make some reference to "The Green Knight" somewhere in the name.
If you decide to go with the name "War Horse" I'll bet there are plenty of pictures in the public domain of the racehorse Man-O-War.
If you're looking for humor... how about a cartoon pic of an army mule? ...Army Mule Hot Sauce, it's half Horse(radish)!
Ever hear of the old cavalry joke told in the form of a fictional book title? Forty Miles in the Saddle by Major A**burns...

Hmm... that reminds me of the legendary Keelboatman named Mike Fink. He was supposed to be this great braggart and liar, and he said of himself that he was "Half horse and half Alligator and jest a tetch of Snapping Turtle".

paper towels, salt, white plastic tray, granite countertop. Did I win????

Oh, you were looking for identifying the EDIBLE items!

Well-done, CJ. horseradish was my first thought. I like the IronHorse name, which is also a train, and is powerful, like a rocket..... (like how I tied all that together? )

Prep the Horseradish, for full heat you have to use a really fine Microplane and let it sit in the Fridge for 30 minutes or so.

After a 40 minute simmer it all goes through the blender

Then back onto the stove for another 40 minute simmer and second blending, then bottle

I love the Wasabish color

Taste right from the pot was in your face Horseradish which mellowed into a Green Habanero flavor with the tang of the apple. The heat of the Habs was not quite where I was hoping it would be but it could also be that my sensing the peppers was thrown off by the horseradish. Overall the taste was great and it had a nice creamy texture thanks to the plantains, which I have never messed with before at all.

Have a great week everyone.

Edit: Dang IPhone pics, sorry a few are a little blury.

That sauce sure is a gorgeous color! Total Wasabi Green! :D

I heard somewhere that to "activate" horseradish, it needs vinegar? Is that correct, or did your lime juice do the trick?

More importantly.....did you have fun making it!? Kudos for going so far outside the box!!! Plantains...who knew?!?!?! :)
