RoninGarden 2013 Glog

Welcome to another season of RoninGarden,

In this episode...

2013 is here, and a new season is upon us.

This season I got a good head start on the summer outdoor season. I've started a few new strains for 2013 as well as carrying over a few from 2012.

Currently the kids are residing in my closet, within a makeshift grow room.
All are in Airpots varying in size from 1/2 liter for the new sprouts, to 1.5 gallon for the 2012 survivors.
Lighting is a dual bulb t8 fixture running 6500k lamps.
My growing medium is Promix Bx.

Here's the lineup for 2013:

2012 survivors in closet grow area:
7 Pot Douglah
7 Pot Red Brain Strain
Yellow Bhut Jolokia (thanks Taxing)
Giant Bhut Jolokia
Trinidad Scorpion
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #2
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #3
White Habanero
Yellow Devils Tongue

Kitchen table:
Atomic Starfish

Bedroom Desklamp Bonchi:
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #1

All peppers will receive nutrients via General Hydroponics General Organics series.
IMG_9047_zps664cb36a.jpg

I used these nutes in 2012 with great results, so I'm sticking with what has worked for me...

Having recently moved, my summer growing space has been reduced by half compared to what I had in 2012.
None the less, I'm planning on moving all peppers outside once summer rolls around so they can enjoy the wonderful Colorado sun..
At this point, the plan is to move them into root pruning pouches approximately 5-7 gallons in size.
We'll see how that all goes...
2012 was a great learning experience, can't wait to see what 2013 throws at me...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update.....

Man them plants sure are purrrrdy. I can't imagine them growing any faster/better but I know they'll really explode with your new t5 fixture. That thing is nothing short of badass! Good luck and keep the pics coming.

That light looks great I can feel the heat from here......ha
That fixture will grow some big babies. I'm looking forward to watching those plants through the rest of the indoor grow !
Ha! I'm hoping for some big kids.

awesome! wish I could score deals like that around here! Right now, I am having fun trying to sketch out a new design of power strip, y splitter cfl set-up that more efficiently uses the space. I like the amount of light that it puts out, and I want to upgrade my other tent as well. Your hydro stuff looks kickin'!
Thanks! Maybe a 4' power strip would work for your set-up...
The hydro kid is still going strong..

The plants are lush and green...look very healthy. That T5 fixture...Whoa!!! Nice!!!
Thanks Doc!

You are going to LOVE that light. What an awesome score.
I couldn't pass it up once I saw it. Gotta love CL.
The kids are really gonna love it..

How are the plants adjusting to the T5?
Just got it set up today. Update to follow..

Thanks for stopping in Dshlogg!
I was getting stupid growth under just a T8 2 tube.
These things are gonna expode now!

Today on RoninGarden,

Upgrade in housing and lighting.
The T5 fixture I scored a few days ago finally has a a new home.
Got a good deal on a 4x4 tent online.

All the kids got fed on saturday as well I changed out the nutes on the hydro pepper.
I'm curious how much the new set-up is going to change the feeding and watering schedule..
I'll be running 4 tubes at a time to start, gauging heat and lowering the lights accordingly.
Next update I'll do some close-ups of each plant.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update....

Welcome to this Saturday night episode of RoninGarden,

The kids are loving the new T5 lights.
They have acclimated well to the new lights and tent.
Everyone got fed today.
G.O. nutes all around.

It took 2 gallons on the nose to feed everyone.
They each got 2 full solo cups worth of juice.
Here is a breakdown of their drink...
per gallon:
15ml bio grow
5ml calmag
10ml bio root
5ml bio weed
10ml bio marine
5ml dlack diamond

The hydro pepper got its reservoir cleaned and nutes changed out as well today.
#14 is being fed soul synthetics
Here's the breakdown on its drink..
Per gallon:
10ml grow
10 ml bloom
10 drops of GH Rapid Start

Let's start off with the individual pics of each pepper.
Have to apologize for photo quality.. gotta use my phone for pics..

Hit the limit on pics.
Once I get a bump I'll post pics of the hydro pepper.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update....

The plants seem to love their "liquid lobster!" Very green...and I saw some flower blossoms! Nice!

...bump...
Thanks for the bump Doc!
They do love their diet... I'm hoping the flowers that would drop under the t8 I had running will now do their thing under the t5..

On this Sunday morning edition of RoninGarden,

I ran the lights for a day with the kill-a-watt meter attached, I found out 4 bulbs at a time will run me only $10 a month in electric.
Huge jump in light output but not that costly.
With the move from t8 to t5 I doubled my light output per bulb as well as moved from 2 bulbs to 4, with the option of running up to 12.
I'm a happy camper to say the least..
My peppers must be even happier..

Hydro close-up follow up.
The #14 pepper is doing really well in the hydro system.
So far it seems to be liking the nutes and general environment.
Here are a few pics of its progress.

Here it is on 1/28 after 3 days of being in the hydro set-up.

Not bad for 16 days... Once it got its roots going it just took off.
Can't wait to see how/if it dwarfs my other plants in the upcoming months...
Ghetto hydro +1!

I'll close out this update with a group shot of the kids in the tent.

I would love to have a setup like that. One of these days. Everything is looking fantastic.

Thanks to you I do!
After hitting me with the info on your lights and the CL recommendation I was able to score a great set-up.
Thanks again!

Very Jealous of the T-5 light buddy. Which seeds did you plant again that i gave you? Plants look lovely btw.
Coming from a guy who has a "grow attic" that's def a compliment!
Thanks!
Check out my previous post.. I added which plant is which as well as who it came from.
Thanks again for all the seeds.

Today on this episode of RoninGarden,

Upgrades in housing for a few..
I potted up 4 of my sprouts into 1/2 liter airpots yesterday.
#'s 15, 16, 17 and 18 got the new house.

Welcome to another Saturday episode of RoninGarden,

Today was feeding day for everyone.
All the airpot kids got their G.O nutes.
The hydro Primo got its Soul nutes as well as a reservoir change and cleaning.
The biggest news so far is no more flower drop.
Pods are starting to form everywhere.

Here's a few on #3 Green Trinidad Scorpion:

With the reservoir clean and change I inspected the rockwool cube and saw some rootage making its way out.

And finally, Mr Prmo from above:
IMG_9110_zps40cc0f54.jpg

I'm definitely a fan of the rockwool drip style of hydro.
Pretty much plug and play so far... The only thing I keep an eye on is the ph. Which has remained fairly stable..
No ppm, tds or ec measurements.
I refresh the reservoir once a week and so far so good...
We'll see how it goes once this thing starts rocking with growth..

Otherwise, all the kids are loving the T5!

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update...

Everything is looking great. So are you just hitting them with a fan to pollinate them or are you doing it yourself with a flower or brush?

Man you spoil the hell out of those plants! Between your new light, tent, airpots and mycos, those babies are in heaven. Good show man!

Looking great! What ever happened with the myco germination experiment?
Thanks Doc!
The seeds are still chillin in Rapid Rooters on the wifi. Haven't given up on them yet..

Everything is looking great. So are you just hitting them with a fan to pollinate them or are you doing it yourself with a flower or brush?
Thanks KC! I flick the flowers with my finger when I can, otherwise it's all the fans work.

Thanks Dshlogg! Yes, the kids are spoiled...

great compact growth! omygosh, i am envious!
Thanks for stopping by Kiddc! I usually keep the light as close as possible being flourescents lamps.
I actually just raised the light.. It's about 1' above the tallest plant. Time for them to stretch a bit..

Awesome grow man. What kind of soil you got them in? They are looking good!

Thanks Jamison! I'm using PromixBx. Soiless medium.

Welcome to another Wednesday episode of RoninGarden,

I had to water a few of the kids last night.
With the new lighting, some of the peppers are going through water a bit faster than before. No complaints from me....
Increased growth has been one of the side benefits of the extra light.
As well as pepper production taking place..

The leader of the pack has to be the Green Scorpion.
This plant is packing on the peppers.
The growth jumped as soon as it went under the T5.
The left/right growth of the stems is crazy on this one...
greenscorp_zpsac274b08.jpg

greenscorp2_zpscea57ac3.jpg

There are a few other peppers putting on some pods, just nothing like the green scorp.
All the other kids in Airpots are growing at a stupid pace.
I'll take some pics for the next update..

Now, I would like to highlight my hydro Primo.
First shot at hydro is working out really well so far..
Super excited to see the growth on this guy.
The leaves are huge.
primo1_zps2cb435dc.jpg

The plant has dwarfed the cube in which it sits.
For reference the grodan rockwool cube is 6".
primo2_zps7253b01d.jpg

Here is a side view. It's topping out at 5" tall.
primo3_zps452154d1.jpg

Here is a close up from the side.
primo4_zpsc8479b80.jpg

The side stems are forming fast. I usually dont see them start forming in Airpots for a few months..
Lovin hydro for the fast results.

Here's a pic of all the kids.
kids_zps753e6fd9.jpg

Today I raised the lights a bit more.
It's now approx 10" above the tallest plant.

In my next update I'll get individual pics of each plant.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update....

Lovin' the pics of your babies in airpots. I've transferred half of my superhots and Habaneros to them and am pleased enough with the results to buy the next size airpot for up-potting later. Cheers
