RoninGarden 2013 Glog

Welcome to another season of RoninGarden,

In this episode...

2013 is here, and a new season is upon us.

This season I got a good head start on the summer outdoor season. I've started a few new strains for 2013 as well as carrying over a few from 2012.

Currently the kids are residing in my closet, within a makeshift grow room.
All are in Airpots varying in size from 1/2 liter for the new sprouts, to 1.5 gallon for the 2012 survivors.
Lighting is a dual bulb t8 fixture running 6500k lamps.
My growing medium is Promix Bx.

Here's the lineup for 2013:

2012 survivors in closet grow area:
7 Pot Douglah
7 Pot Red Brain Strain
Yellow Bhut Jolokia (thanks Taxing)
Giant Bhut Jolokia
Trinidad Scorpion
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #2
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #3
White Habanero
Yellow Devils Tongue

Kitchen table:
Atomic Starfish

Bedroom Desklamp Bonchi:
Butch T Trinidad Scorpion #1

2013 newbies in 1/2 liter airpots:

All peppers will receive nutrients via General Hydroponics General Organics series.
IMG_9047_zps664cb36a.jpg

I used these nutes in 2012 with great results, so I'm sticking with what has worked for me...

Having recently moved, my summer growing space has been reduced by half compared to what I had in 2012.
None the less, I'm planning on moving all peppers outside once summer rolls around so they can enjoy the wonderful Colorado sun..
At this point, the plan is to move them into root pruning pouches approximately 5-7 gallons in size.
We'll see how that all goes...
2012 was a great learning experience, can't wait to see what 2013 throws at me...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update.....

Welcome to a Wednesday edition of RoninGarden,

Naga Viper is the first to show some dramatic color change.

Only one pod so far, but more are just behind..
Here's a few more pics of pods on the Naga Viper:

Pod variation is crazy..

This is the Green Scorpion.
No color change... Just a deepening of the green.

There's a few on here that are close to harvest.
Now's the time to figure out what I'll be cooking them with.

I'll close out with a pic of the everyone in the tent.

Any guess which is the hydro pepper...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update...

Welcome to a Friday edition of RoninGarden,

Today all airpot peppers got fed their G.O. nutes.

As well the hydro Primo got it's reservoir cleaned and Soul Synthetics nutes changed out.
In addition to the grow and bloom mix I added a bit more Rapid Start and some General Hydro Floralicious to help round out my n-p-k #'s.
Roots have exploded so much that I decided to get a rockwool slab for the roots.
Primo got the $5 upgrade today..
IMG_9480_zps22f3fe8c.jpg

The cube is 6" and the slab is 9.5x7x4".
IMG_9482_zps4a9977ab.jpg

I had to add new line for the drip because of the 4" increase in height.
IMG_9484_zpsd518e03b.jpg

The Primo is consuming approx 1 gallon of water in a week.
The slab upgrade will give me a buffer for the time being until I increase the size of the reservoir.
That won't be too far off as I see it...
Otherwise the hydro Primo is in great shape. Topping out at 20" now.
Here's a pic of the "trunk"
IMG_9483_zps86e2ce53.jpg

It's been setting flowers like mad lately.
IMG_9496_zpsf672b6f5.jpg

They're definitely getting the finger flick and fan action..

The Naga Viper is ripening up superfast.
IMG_9491_zps1e45f77a.jpg

Completely red in 2 days...

The 7 Pot Brown is showing some color change as well..
IMG_9488_zpsf4dd9c5a.jpg

The only thing worse than waiting for seeds to sprout is waiting for pods to ripen..

I'll end this update with a pic of an Hp22b pod.
IMG_9500_zpsa59d92a4.jpg

Looking good, just wondering how it tastes...

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update....

Great looking plants and set up! Are you planning on putting these outside? The green scorpion pods will get dark and then go to a caramel color. I didn't like the heat of flavor personally but it was a nice looking plant.

Doing great man! Awesome roots on that Primo and tail on that HP22B. You'll be in a sweet position to compare the two at harvest time. Is the Primo gonna stay indoors when the rest of the gang goes out for summer?

Looking good, cr.
Thanks Charles!
After seeing the success you had with a tent, I knew it was a good route to go.

Thanks! Yes, all but the hydro Primo will go outside once that time comes...
The verdict is still out on the green scorp.
Definitely looking forward to the taste test.

Seriously impressive. You get more out of an indoor grow than someone like me can get outdoors! Very nice.
Thanks Doc!
I've seen you growing outdoor collection. I think once summer rolls around you'll be swimming in pods.

Thanks!
At this point the Primo will remain indoors, while the rest will move outside.
Hopefully it won't be long until the Primo starts putting on pods.

Welcome to this Sunday edition of RoninGarden,
IMG_9546_zps96a942ab.jpg

We've been having some incredible weather lately, Therefore more time has been spent on the bike rather than in the garden...
That doesn't mean everything has stopped growing!
On Thursday I added a few beneficial friends to the tent.
Ladybugs.
IMG_9531_zps1bed01f3.jpg

Didn't think there were many nasties in the garden until I saw all their carcasses scattered on the tent floor.
The tent has been cleansed.
Thursday was also the first harvest of 2013.

Naga Viper was the first to put out a ripe pod.
It only had 3 seeds inside..

This pepper got split between two dishes which turned out great.
Thursday night was a chicken curry dish.

On Friday, the remaining bit went into sauce for some homemade pizza.

Naga Viper definitely lit up the tastebuds! This one is definitely a keeper.
On Friday all the airpot kids got fed their G.O. nutes.
As well the hydro Primo got its reservoir cleaned and nutes changed out.
IMG_9537_zpsdba89c0a.jpg

Flowers are forming all over, soon hopefully, pods will be next...
This guy is topping out at 25".
I had to do a bit of pruning throughout the garden. Forcing them to grow up instead of out.
There has been lots of color forming too.
The 7 Pot Brown is ripening up nicely..
IMG_9564_zps63c749f4.jpg

This might be the next one to end up in a meal..
I'll end this update with a selection of pods from the hp22b.

Amazing pod variations..

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next udate....

Very nice update, Ronin. Wish I had a vista like that for my backyard view. Nice weather here today, too. The OWs are sunning themselves and I'm heading out shortly to round up some lady bugs to bring in to the grow area.

So that NV is a 3-pot, huh? I have to ask, what's your power cost per kw-hr?

I haven't been keeping up closely with the Reaper community grow log, but it looks from here like you might be on track for the first northern hemisphere pod of 2013. Is that right?

This has been some great weather we have been having. Is that pic taken by Standley Lake?

Is your bike a motorcycle or a bicycle? My husband has not gone riding yet this year on his bicycle. I am surprised he didn't make time this weekend. One of my 19 year old sons got into a little crash with his motorcycle just over a week ago. It was the same week his twin brother slid off the road in the snow. Everyone is okay except for the lady in the car that crashed with the motorcycle- she is claimed injuries a few days later.

Your plants, pods & food all look wonderful.

Michelle

It's those views that keep me here in Colorado. The Naga only had 3 seeds. My kw/hr is $.12. I have a 12 lamp fixture, but I only use 4 bulbs at a time.
So running it is actually pretty cheap. Approx $10 a month.

Thanks for stopping by Michelle!
My ride is a mountain bike.

I'm staying away from the motorcycles until I can't ride the bicycle anymore.
Safer for everyone that way..
And yes, that is Standley Lake.

Welcome to another Sunday edition of RoninGarden,

The weather has been spectacular lately!
Still too cold at night for planting out just yet...
All the kids have been receiving their weekly nute fix as well the hydro Primo getting its reservoir cleaned and changed.
On the Primo front...
The first pod has arrived!

Success on getting my first hydro pepper to pod up!

Finally all the peppers are stacking on pods.
As well as pods forming they are also ripening up nicely.
The 7 Pot Brown turned out to be a 7 Pot Red.

Either way this tasted great.

Here's a pic of the Yellow Brain.

Can't wait to eat one of these!

The Douglah is browning nicely!

This plant only has 2 pods currently. But this is 200% more than I had last season.
Success as far as I'm concerned...

I'll end this update with one of the garden enforcers.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update......

Hey John... Douglah and 7-pot Red pods ftw... ka-ching! Looking great buddy! We're at about the same place for overnight temps here, and I've got pods on one of my Aji's. Cheers!

Thanks Rick!
Ka-ching is right. Congrats on the pods!

[sub][sub]Very nice! Good luck with your 2013 season.[/sub][/sub]
Thanks Buddy!

Welcome to another edition of RoninGarden,

All is going well in the garden. Lots of colors appearing with pods starting to ripen.
Latest harvest was the Douglah.

Still got to figure out what I'll be cooking this with...

My first hydro pod is shaping up nicely.
Primo:

Mean Red Cross has been podding up well. Pods are the largest in the garden by far.
Real pimply..

I have a few showing color. I'll get some pics for the next update.

Next up is the Naga Viper.

The pod variations have been all over. Hab style to scorp style shapes... Desipte the shape variations, heat has always been intense..

Here is one of the 7 Pot Reds.

7 Pot Yellow Brain starting to change.

The Billy Boy Douglah Yellow is shaping up well.

Here's a few of hp22b pods.

They are tasty!

I'll end this update with a pic of a Hp22b and Mean Red Cross ripening in the background.

Thanks for stopping by!

Until the next update..........
