glog SadisticPeppers 2025 Glog

I plan on restarting small. I ordered Chocolate Reaper seeds from Matt's Peppers (ETA Tuesday 2/14) and will be using my patio to grow the plants. I measured it out, and with the 5-gallon Home Depot buckets from my previous venture, I should have space for 24 on the balcony, using drip irrigators and a fertilizer injector.

I'll be sure to post up pics soon when I begin the seeding process.

Update 2/14/2025: Here's the first pics. Thanks to Matt's Peppers for the quick delivery and the freebies included in the package. I'll be starting my grow this year with Chocolate Reapers.

Unless Pepper Joe's has changed its spots, there's a fairly good chance you'll be enjoying Bell peppers. jmo.

TexasHotPeppers, MattsPeppers, WhiteHotPeppers, The ChiliPepperInstitute, and BakerCreek are a few that come to mind. And of course SemillasLaPalma when their store isn't having staff and international shipping issues.
Thanks. Placed an order with Matt's Peppers for some Chocolate Reaper seeds

I was under the impression Pepper Joe's got bought out by someone a few years back and was under new management?

Who else has a decent supply of seeds?

Not sure - quit following them years ago. I know Joe's father started the business in PA, then Joe took it over. He then applied his used car salesman skills to it. After a while, he moved south, (Myrtle Beach maybe?) eventually retired, and handed the business over to his daughter. She continued on in Dad's dubious ways, and that's where I left it. Maybe they have been sold, and things are better. Dunno.

As far as vendors, I usually point people HERE. I've dealt with most of these vendors over the years, and consider them reputable. Also, I've dealt with Garth at Texas Hot Peppers for years, but I can't edit that post to add him to that original list.

Thanks for the info. I made sure to bookmark that list when I need more seeds

It also slipped my mind that Joe was good buds with He Who Shall Not Be Named, whom I had a very bad experience with years back...

Overnight soak finished, and placed the seeds in the tray. It's outside enjoying the sun :)

When I put it out on the patio, I made sure to tape the cover in a couple spots so it won't fly off with the slightest breeze

Good luck with your grow. Can’t wait to see your setup with the buckets and drip system. Hope you figured some space in between those buckets. I’ve made the mistake of putting plants too close together and when I tried to separate and move around they couldn’t support themselves on their own. Just something to think about if you haven’t already.

Sure did, since I ran into the same issue years ago, and I learned my lesson then

Here's an update/photo dump of the last couple of days. I now have 11 seedlings/hooks, including a seedling with triple leaves starting out. I did a pressure test for my in-line fertilizer and the tank ruptured, but it was a small crack, so a healthy application of some Gorilla Tape should do the trick. It occurred to me (mea culpa) that I should've gotten a pressure valve to take the water pressure down to 25 PSI. I had one the last time, but of course, it was so long since my last run, it was one of a couple items I didn't have this go around. I ordered one from Amazon and it should arrive today.

You can even see my cat, TomTom managing things as I do my thing.

Nice! Quick update... Two more hooks popped up overnight, so I now have lucky 13 sprouts!

I'll also be putting up a tarp to have the excess water spill over the side of my balcony over the bushes besides my walkway, and not off the front of the balcony and (incidentally) my front door.
