vendor Sicman and Lady Sic - THE BEST!!!

I ordered some powders so was not surprised when I heard a knock on the side door and the mailman's truck parked in front of my house. However, I was VERY surprised to receive a box that was much larger than expected and WARNINGS written all over it. When I opened the box, I found the powders I ordered AND some extra goodies - including some pickled okra that Lady Sic makes in her own kitchen. WOW - I love pickled okra! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Google old southern recipes. Generally slice it, let it sit in buttermilk at least overnight, then shake it in a bag with corn meal and your favorite seasonings. It's hard to get the corn meal to stick if you don't let it sit in the corn meal at least overnight.

I always look at recipes as starting points- I never season based on the recipe, and never ever use black pepper, only capsicum.

Ironically, the very first time I had pickled Okra was at a pool-side hotel room in Sarasota FL with the Sic's. Sonya turned us on to it but she was pissed that the Publix across the street didn't have "spicy". Good memories...
