IMG_20230303_145332 de coperta.jpg

In this picture are 2 Dwarf Chiltepin from seeds from Semillas that sprouted on February 15. One of them shows signs of starting to branch out. A very nice growth habit for this variety. One of them will turn into a bonchi.

An hour ago, I soaked the C. Chinense seeds in a solution of 2% saltpeter in distilled water.

I will leave it for 2 hours, after which I will empty the saltpeter solution and put a solution of H2O2 0.3% plus Rhizotonic 1% for almost 24 hours..
Tomorrow I will put C. Chinense seeds in Root Riot cubes.

Strange that the espelettes grow pointing upwards... 🤔

In my experience the home made espelette powder tastes nothing like the "real thing". Could be just me of course with my below par growing conditions...

Last Sunday I cut out all the suspended C. Chinense plants. I picked all the ripe or green peppers. At the end of the season we had a pretty good harvest.

HSH SB makes beautiful peppers with a good aroma and the heat seems to be less than Papa Dreadie SB. It looks similar to the MOA SB to me which is a good thing. I will also grow some plants next year.

Pi 215734 is the revelation of the year. Although it is a C. Chinense, it has the shape of C. Bacatuum and the taste, smell and heat seem to be a combination of C Chinense with C. Bacatuum. This year I had one plant, next year I want to grow 4 plants.

The Fatalii plants produced enough pods in the end, but the pods are quite small and very few were ripe.

Zimbabwe Bird is an extraordinary plant. It has a wonderful appearance and is a very good producer in the 1.5 l pot. Unfortunately, the taste and hotness of the peppers is not as good. I will grow it over the winter just for its beauty.

The Dwarf Chiltepin bonsai is starting to look pretty good in that hydroponic pot. All summer it sat by a window in the sunlight, but soon it will go back under LED lights.

All the C. Annuum plants from the bottom are still in pots. I will come back with pictures if I decide to harvest the peppers today.

Those bonnets look beautiful! My guess is that the HSH bonnets are also authentic Jamaican scotch bonnets so it makes sense that they look like MOA bonnets... who knows... maybe the humble servants got MOA seeds to start with... that's just me guessing of course.

Looks like a successful grow this season, Vivian!
I always like the balcony jungle at your place!

I left some plants on the balcony watering them when I remembered.
On an HSH Scotch Bonnet I had some isolated pods that ripened nicely during the cold season.

Some Piment d'Espelette made flowers and pods. There were nights with -4°C (25°F). Photos were taken at 2°C (35.6°F).

It seems that mature plants are quite resistant to cold.

Those green pods in the last pic look like spanish Pimiento Piquillo.
Are those the Piment d’ Espelette?

@PaulG , All are Piment d'Espelette, but the pods have not reached their maximum size. Well, I don't even think that will happen in this cold period. Anyway, I will leave them out and I will keep you updated on their evolution. Or involution... :P

The Zimbabwe Bird in the office is still producing and looking good even though the temperature during the night is about 15°C (59°F).

I moved the Dwarf Chiltepin bonsai under the led light. It has new growth after half of the branches have dried.
