Smuggling seeds

Thank you for the advice.  Curious to know how the cannabis seed customs thing worked out.  I imagine no proof you ordered them, nothing came of it.  Hoping anyway.

I got a letter saying that my contraband had been seized by customs and that I was welcome to come pick it up... yea right lol. Would hope no one's that stupid.

Been struggling whether to respond or not, but here goes.

D3monic,
yep, come claim it and it's yours, complete with whatever liabilities attach.

AJ Drew,
Good story. A more common one is "I met him to sell some crack/weed/heroin etc. and he robbed me, took my crack/weed/heroin etc. and my money." Sounds bizarre but it is very common. One angle got so bad here years ago, that they actually passed legislation to address it. "Selling counterfeit drugs" became a criminal offense. People would do things (for example) like break up talcum pencils (used for marking steel) and pass them off as crack cocaine rocks (it does look identical). The "buyer" would call the cops to report he'd gotten ripped-off.

I believe that the official line was that people "were ingesting prescribed pharmaceuticals for various medical conditions that may have unknown adverse effects rather than pain-killers sought to simply cause euphoria" or something like that. It was uncommon (I don't actually ever recall a pill case) so I figure the "fake" crack thing was the driving factor. Could be both, reckon both are plausible...

In edit to this post, concerning "pharmaceuticals," I used to work closely with a state agent who handled prescription fraud and similar cases. From my recollection, I recall that there were some nurses or other medical folks who would "steal" drugs from patients. Some would substitute saline for morphine and pocket the morphine or similar drugs or swap one pill for another. I believe that they may have been charged under the "counterfeit drugs" statute among other charges. So perhaps, the law might indeed have been more valid than I stated above. I should be be more guarded in such statements. My apologies.

Wait, this stuff is what you are talking about?  I have some of that in my tool box.  Its a bit more yellow than the stuff I linked to, but I think it is the same stuff.  I bought it at a knife maker shop outside of Columbus, OH.  Great stuff because you can heat the steel and the mark stays on it.  Leaves a dark spot where the chalk is so you know where to hot cut.

On the theft of pharmaceuticals: I think it is huge business. My late mother used to get her medications by mail.  It is how medicare insisted maintenance medications be provided.  Her medications would often come up missing in the mail or mispacked.  My business is almost all mail order.  Our lost in the mail rate is almost zero.  Our misspack rate is low even when I use my 13 year old to pick and pack.

Did have a hospital and a nursing home stay where my wife insists pills went into a nurses pocket.  But here only proof was my mood an level of pain.  Evidently, when I am in pain I get grumpy.  But I think the majority of pharmaceuticals that wind up in the wrong hands are from the larger distributes an maybe even the manufacturers.  I think it is just so much cheaper for medicare and insurance companies to rely on mail order pharmacies that they look the other way.

Now where I see the real problem, something president Trump is overlooking, is fentanyl and carfentianal.  It is available online from China where it might as well not be regulated.  It is wildly less expensive than heroin in this country, do dealers stretch their heroin with fentanyl and/or carfentinal and wind up overdosing and killing people.  This is the opiate epidemic that is killing Americans.  Ah but combat that, President Trump has declared a war on opiates which attacks pain clinics and doctors.  Makes no sense.  He could make a phone call to China, tell them to make the stuff illegal, or we wont buy any more of their rubber doggy poop and other novelty items.

Instead, it is business as normal, kids dying, and hospice nurses having to have home bound cancer patients urinate in a cup.  People who make the laws have no understaning of the real problem a foot.

AJ Drew,

Yep same stuff. One element of crack making is Ammonia. Some use clear ammonia and others use lemon scented (yellow) so the end result crack will be white or yellowish.....

Can't argue with anything else you've said.

Ever seen this? Believe any of it? Part of it? All of it? None of it?

AJ Drew,

Good points and those type stories appear in our bulletins and such, but not being a border state we don't see it here. What we have and do see along those lines involve the prisons and the means people attempt to introduce contraband. In the same instructor school I mentioned before, there was an Investigator for the Dept. of Corrections. His job involved investigating these activities and did a wonderful presentation on this subject. Some things I learned:

People will attempt to lob or catapult stuff over the fences at night. A popular one was a hollowed out Nerf football, some painted camouflage to match the grass and another one he mentioned was coated with sprouting grass seeds (like the "Chia pets" from 1980's TV commercials.) And not surprising was the new use of "drones". Gotta love technology.

A bit different topic somewhat, but I think anyone reading will enjoy, is cell phones. At current prison rate, a regular cell phone gotten inside will net $500-$1000. Smartphones $1500-$3000. Using smartphones and the internet, there exists a very profitable scam. The inmate will troll "dating sites" and pretend to be a girl. They target young dudes who post pictures of themselves in front of nice cars, military uniforms etc.. that look like they either have money or stand to lose a lot if they get in trouble. Knowing this, here's how it goes:

They make contact with the "target", engage in on-line conversations. Then at some point, they will copy and paste a nude photo of a good looking young girl claiming it is who they are communicating with. They will then ramp it up and ask for a nude photo of the "target" in return. The naive target, will sometimes respond with actual nude photo or "dick pic." When this happens - the hook is in. The next step they will ask for phone number to arrange a meeting to engage in intimate activities. If the target provides a number, it's "game on."

The inmate will call the target claiming to be the "father" of the "underage" girl, who just discovered nude pics from the target on his daughter's computer. It varies a bit after this, but the most common situation is that the target "freaks out" and claims he didn't know the girl was underage. Then comes the clincher.. The inmate/father will say that he believes the guy didn't know and won't press charges if he pays for the computer that he demolished in a fit of rage. Sometimes, they don't "destroy the computer" but opt instead for outright continued blackmail. The targets of course fork out thousands and never say a word. The inmates who get caught at this, most always use the excuse that they were doing society a favor and just screwing with the pedophiles....

A long winded piece, but as much as folks have offered me here, I figure that likewise I will offer what I know. Hopefully, it will be of use and if not, maybe entertaining...

Carefully take the eraser out of a company advertising pencil, drill it out add seeds, reapply eraser. Include multiple pencils and a typed letter with letterhead (so it looks real) from said company thanking them for their purchase.

But ya didn't hear that from me..just in case any cops see this

Trading with someone from Taiwan.  Customs got the seeds I sent there.  Willing to bet drug sniffing dogs got a nose full of peppers.  Got this wild idea.  One of the things I make are these pendents and ear rings with tiny bottles of mustard seed.  I sell them with the bible quote about mustard seeds and faith.  Think I am about to gift some jewelry to a person in Taiwan.

Does anyone know if normal letters require someone to fill out a customs form?  It is kind of fun to play secret pepper man, but i would rather not actually do it.
Aside from illegal contraband, the main reason for seizing seeds is to prevent importation of foreign plant diseases. Examples such as Citrus Greening Disease, Banana Panama Disease, etc... These diseases cost the Agriculture industry millions to billions of dollars annually. The other reason is to prevent people from stealing and selling endangered plant species internationally. A CITES permit is required to import these seeds legally into the US.

This thread sure took a strange turn...

Did you fill out a customs form for the way over? If you did and labeled it "seeds" or "peppers" that's probably what flagged it. Also, there are dogs trained to sniff out fruits and vegetables...
