So I'm in Chicago for the first time and see a Chili's

And I think, HEY! These Americans really got it figured out. Looks like a nice casual restaurant I can take my wife n 9 month old daughter too..

We go, order dinner. Food arrives, it's decent but bland. I ask for hot sauce and all they have is Tabasco?! The server, who was kinda cool but failed on this... he drops the tabasco on my table and goes "BAM! Hot sauce!". Errr. more like vinegar with red food colouring.

I was sadly disappointed. A restaurant named "chili" with no chili! Ugh.

I guess I shoulda known better!

Chili's FAIL! Don't go to Burger King either, they don't have burgers, just seasoned cardboard. And Applebee's doesn't have apples, or bees. Okay... too far

Yeah ive heard that these loosers only carry Tabasco, shame on them! They need a royal flogging imo

Sorry Lost. I think in the Hot Talk forum if I remember correctly, we thoroughly bash Chili's, Friday's, Appleby's and all of those chain "feel good" themed cook out of a box ala Olive Garden restaurants. Sorry that you had to experience that part of our american cuisine. When in Chicago though, think deep dish pizza, hotdogs and sportpeppers, and beef, beef, beef!!

Cheers, TB.

Lostmind, it's pretty "hit and miss" with these big chain restaurants; when it comes to menu offerings, there's some good dishes and some really lousy dishes. From Chili's, I love the habanero-grazed ribs and the the chipotle chicken fajitas (I forget the exact names of these items on the menu). But of course, since the average American palette isn't familiar with heat, restaurants usually don't stock up on anything except Tabasco. About the only type of American restaurant you'll find approaching our heat level when it comes to sauces is a chicken wing place.

Next time you're down in the States, let us know where you're going to be and I'm sure there will be some locals here in the forums who could recommend some "real" cuisine, like Chicago's deep dish pizza & hot dogs.

I managed to find some decent deep dish pizza and had a couple dogs (though the dogs were nothing special, probably cuz I had them hyped up in my mind). You know the heaven on seven we were " " < that close to ordering dinner from there but we had "baby troubles" that forced us back to the hotel. Then we ordered bland thai food from a place 1 block from our hotel. What is it with heat in food in the US? In Canada you can get thai food that is hot enough to put steam in your ears... :)

Too bad we missed that one!

We didn't have much time to plan this trip, it was a last minute thing to visit and tour a few new colo's facilities we are looking to expand too.

Really like Chicago though! It's like a cleaner, friendlier New york. Cheaper too!

When I was there, I thought parts were like a clean, manicured NY. Hey, but we're friendly! Bastard! I meaaaannnn. Friend!

Hehe, I had a GREAT time in new york. Greatest taxi ride of my life. We were going for a ferry ride around staten island and we were running late. This total rasta man taxi driver pulls over for us and we pile in. He had the front passenger seat covered with tapes and he waves me into the front seat and swipes all the tapes onto the floor... we tell him where we are going and he races off (no seatbelt) pulls a U turn in the middle of busy traffic, some crazy reggae music playin LOUD and he drives like a complete maniac and even ran up over a sidewalk/pedestrian area to get us closer to our destination. Was awesome! Tipped that guy $20!

BTW we have a restaurant here call sammy j peppers that is all about spicy food except none of the food is spicy. At least they have hot sauce though!
