soil soil temp vs. ambient temp

I don't have a thermometer i can stick in the soil yet, i just have a digital clock that also displays ambient temperature. I leave this in my grow box.

If the soil temp is supposed to be 86 degrees what would be an ideal ambient temp be?

Really depends on the construction of your box. If it is insulated from the bottom then your air temp could be 86-88 degrees and be fine, but if it is not then probably 90 would be better.

Its just a cardboard box lined with foil. So i guess 90?
