Hey, Shane, your plants are looking really first class!
But the news that all three grafts are still in the hunt
is a cake-taker! It's always cool to drop in and see
what magic you're working now!
Thanks Paul. It really was a relief to see those 2 make a comeback. I am really excited about the prospect of the two smaller ones for sure...and would have been disappointed if I lost one...especially due to stupidity. Yours is fun to check in on too! Once I'm finally retired I am going to be a force to be reckoned with or ummmm a menace to society haven't decided yet.

Your manzanos look good. Mine are a bit bigger than yours but I was starting to worry about them as the leaves were crinkly and curling under, but yours look the same as mine. This is my first time growing them, is that normal or should I really be analyzing a possible problem?
Those dudes are young and growing like crazy! I have never grown them before, but the pics I've seen of Manzanos and Rocotos always have the leaves drooping/curling down a little on the ends. I am very impressed with the thickness of the stems for plants so young! They're going to have some really nice trunks. They are supposed to be slow/limited producers the first year, but once overwintered should put out buckets of little hot apples.

Thanks fellas!
Shane

Everything is looking good Shane. :halo:
Those grafts are crazy.
From the looks of your backyard it doesn't look like you will have to mow the lawn for a while.
You have a very forgiving better half

You will give us a few days notice, right? :D

Thanks Jamie! Unfortunately I still have some grass to mow, but I did get rid of a small patch of it. As you know one of the drawbacks of living in such a great climate is that the mowing is a year round thing. Summer is twice a week, Winter is once a week...

The grafts are kind of crazy...I really hope I can get them to stick. I think once I plant the rest of my stuff out next weekend I am going to dedicate my indoor grow shelf to them and put them on a short cycle to start with then slowly build them up...Should be cool if it works.

Won't be for at least 3 more years...but probably closer to 14. I can dream can't I? All depends on the kids and their college choices.

Thanks for stopping by!
Shane

Black Rose Succulent Aeonium Arboreum.....I might have to bribe for a chunk of that. The Grafts lookin good, they will be livin large, but you need bigger Manzanos.. .

haha! My parents told me that if I wanted to go to college I needed to get straight A's and get a good scholarship or else I'd be saying "would you like fries with that sir" working 60 hour weeks trying to pay off college.

I did get the 75% of everything scholarship, but it ended up being about 750$ a year =( turn out 75% only applies to state schools, other wise they have a state wide average for private school tuition, and they pay 75% of that average...

I ended up working my rear off any way to finish college... Now off to grad school in the fall with a 100% scholarship - for everything. /stoked/.

Nice surprise today...since my Scotch Bonnets didn't grow true Matt (mjdiamond83) was nice enough to hook me up with some known true seed! Soooo, once again I will be soaking some seeds to start tomorrow. This is the last time I promise!
No garden pics today...momma hid the camera and I didn't find it 'till it was too late for pics outside. I did take a few of some BA poppers! Manzanos stuffed with refried beans, sliced beef, cheese, and a spoonful of cornbread batter infused with more cheese, whole kernel corn, and black olives, topped with more cheese and olives. Did I mention there was cheese in there? Those peppers are so sneaky...start off really mild then build until on the second half of the pepper you feel like you face is melting!
Here's the finished product...all the pics posted on the mmmmmm poppers thread.

Thanks again for the seeds Matt!!! I can't wait to get them started!!!

Hopefully I can get a few pics of the outside plants. Some of the Chinenses are loving it out there...some not so much. None look bad...just not as happy as they were in their nice little climate controlled greenhouse. They'll get over it! All the annuums and the 2 Baccatums are going nuts! The in ground Bishop's crown has grown several inches this week and is putting out buds. Looking at the long range forecast and were gonna be staying in the low to mid 70 starting Tuesday...Just gotta make it that far.

Rare rainy day here in socal...so looks like the updates will have to be from the indoors. While setting up I found out a few aphids had made it in from outside in spite of my inspections and spraying them before they came in. I guess a couple slipped by. Only found a few, but I am certain there are more. Far from an issue...yet.

Lets start off with a before and after. I had a little bell pepper that was really sick...had been planted in December and after almost two months was still just sitting there stunted. Here is a pic of the little dude I posted about a month ago when I decided to move it in. It is next to a (not) Scotch Bonnet that was a few weeks old...

Bell is on the left and the not Scotch is on the right...

Here are the same two plants today...

P1000480.jpg

Bell left and not Scotch on the right. You can still see the 3 curled sickly looking leaves on the base of the Bell plant...

A couple of my indoor trays...
P1000481.jpg

I think that the one in the back with the cat damage an Aji Omnicolor???

More cat damage on the lower left plant (Chocolate Bhut)

Wild Brazil

Douglah

Fish peppers...these guys are out of control and in desperate need of potting up.

P1000489.jpg

Tepins, the smaller one is now trying to play catch up.

Top down view of the two tepins. If you look closely you can see the buds on the larger plant...

All three of the grafts are doing well! With peppers the line between too much and not enough water is pretty fine as it is...grafting amplifies that even further. They are really sensitive to light and water amounts. Next weekend I'll start slowly cutting the roots loose from the yellow bhut in the bhut/fatalii graft. I think I am going to carefully seperate the roots and install some sort of barrier between each plants root system today or tomorrow.

I will the outdoor plants if the weather allows at some point...as for now, I am going to catch up on some of the honey do's around the house while its raining. Next weekend will be final pot up/plant out for most of the indoor plants as well. I have one more tray (not shown) plus the grafts and seeds I just started that will remain inside for a while longer.

Thanks for looking!
Shane

Looking great Shane. Hey what size is the pot that the Wild Brazil is in? I noticed that it looks a bit smaller than the others, but the plant looks just as impressive. As far as square pots go, what do you usually pot up into after the flats?

Also, aside from the Photo Album that needs your continued additions....How about a freaking TD?!? Those stuffed Manzanos are definitely TD worthy!

I almost entered the cast iron TD a few months back...I might jump on the ramen wagon, we'll see!

The Wild Brazil is actually in a larger pot. 4"x4" by 4" deep the others in the pics are in 3"x3" by 4" deep.
P1000492.jpg

Wild Brazil in 4x4x4 lft and Tepin in 3x3x4 rt

They go from them into 6" round pots if they're eventually going into 5 Gallon pots or into 1 Gallons if they're going in the ground.

Grafts are looking good! I'll get some pictures of mine, and try to get them up today as well...
Thanks! Look forward to pics of yours!

Well I separated out the roots of the Yellow bhut scion from the Fatalii...they look a little under developed. Which could be a good sign. I am hoping that this means it is getting all it needs from the host root system. We're gonna find out...

I decided to keep it this way for a while to see if it wilts...if it starts to get droopy I will bury them again.
P1000493.jpg

I think that you will likely get some wilting even if the graft has taken.
Yup sure did! lol...pretty quick. Could have taken it a little easier on the little dude(s) but NOPE...dug up his roots and put him directly under the CFL's + T8's. :flamethrower: Little wilt, but took a while. Wasn't planning on starting to trim the roots back until next weekend, just testing a little today. I separated them out and left the divider between the roots. Thursday I will cut about half the roots...if still doing well Friday I will cut half of that, then the same on Saturday and Sunday until it starts to struggle or the roots are gone. Once I start the process I will put them in a spot with a little indirect light until I am done trimming the roots. Once done I will give them a little more and better light each day. Pretty sure they're stuck already. Tired of waiting!

If this doesn't work I may try something else...or I may spray all my plants with roundup.
