Plants are looking great man! Very jealous of your blossoms!!!
Thanks man! Won't be long and everyone will be posting pod pics!

I chopped one of those mystery peppers up in a taco, and was surprised by the amount of kick it had. Jamie will probably say they don't have any heat, LOL!!!
"Small kick" :flamethrower: :fire: :fireball: :fire: Lol...not a super, but a ton hotter than I expected. I almost felt a little sorry for my daughter's boyfriend...nahhh.

Thanks Jamie! We just ate the those two, but I will definitely be carefully dissecting each of the remaining mystery pods for some of the seeds. No where near as hot as the two supers I ate, but surprisingly hot. Can't wait to eat your brain!

The best news of the day is I finally got some action on the germ tray again!!! One of the Scotch Bonnets from Matt (MJDiamond) just popped! Woot! I will have no problem finding room for that baby! Also looks like 3 of the remaining 4 big jims I have in a paper towel setup might give it a go! Yessss. Momma ain't gonna be pleased that the grow lights will be going a while longer...but she'll get over it. Really excited about the SB, I was very bummed to find out the others I had were the annuum variety. They may be good too, and the plants look great and are growing like weeds...just not the one everyone raves about.

Here is my mini harvest...
P1000682.jpg

Just starting to turn...like I said above the only reason I pulled them was to try to stimulate a little new growth during the good weather we're having. Still bummed me a little not getting to watch them ripen on the bushes. The small black one is a Goat's Weed the rest Cayennes. They'll be full of pods again in no time.

P1000683.jpg

Here's a little Aji Amarillo...no yellow on this guy, just the lights shining through the leaves from behind.

The plants stuck in the damp section of the garden are starting to green back up as things dry out with the warm weather. They still look a little sickly, but new growth is sprouting at all the nodes, so I think they're gonna make it. Plant inspection today revealed that the aphids and mites are still winning, but they don't have as much of a stronghold anymore. Finding more and more lady bugs each time I go out there. Their days are numbered...

Well that's it for now. Time to figure out which of the peppers Jamie sent will get eaten with dinner.

Shane

What a great few days for ya Shane. I know exactly what it is like to get a little hell in a box from Jamie. The peppers are great, but those powders go such a long way. I use em on everything from breakfast to everything.....lol.... But they do go great in a bloody mary.

I think that pulling the pods from the cayenne was a smart decision. I had a cayenne last season that was like a 3' bush that I could continue to pull pods from and they wouldn't stop popping out. It should give it some more growth, which is always good.

Edit: Grammar Error
Really was...many more to come I hope! Flakes is what most of my peppers will end up as. Once I am done with my grow shelves they will get converted into two waist high work stations for drying, powdering and flaking. The sauces will have to be made in the kitchen.

I mis id's the breakfast pepper. I reviewed the photos and discovered that it was not a red 7 but a dorsett naga.

Dinner tonight was a yellow 7. Not much different than the cardi, but seemed to have a bit more kick to me??? Figured it being a yellow it wouldn't be that hot...but that is a pretty damn hot pepper! First hiccups I've had in a while. This pepper was full of placenta and had that same fruity chinense flavor as the cardi with a bit of a bitter aftertaste. Great Pepper! I put half on the burrito I had for dinner and just ate the other half. I wonder how these yellow 7's compare to the LG Yellow 7's I have planted???

Sorry for the serial updates...I am really just making sure that I document each of these peppers as I taste them for the first time.

Keep it up, Shane - I can get some vicarious thrills
from your exploration of Jamie's peppers!

Don't apologize for the serial updates. I know you are
just trying to get to 17,000 before I get to 16,000 ;)

More power to ya, my friend  keep up the good work.
You have a fantastic grow goin'.

Hardly! You made 16k before I went to bed last night...not that I was checking :P

8 more hardened plants went in the ground today, and the two military container planter boxes were filled and planted yesterday. Got some family in town unexpectedly and will be kind of easy on the updates. Next 4 days are at or above 80 so the weather is perfect!

Decided to go with the Ghost tonight...cut up half and put it on my pizza, and the other half I ate outright all at once. Not as hot as the Red 7's or at least it didn't seem so. The chinense flavor was more subdued and mellow and the burn was not as right now face melting. Built slowly to a very nice peak and then burned even for a bit before gradually mellowing back down. My favorite so far! Delicious taste not fruity and just a hint of signature chinense. I ate the stem end half outright which contained all the placenta so I know I got the brunt of the heat. My 11 yo son had a small sliver on his pizza as well as my brother in law. I found myself trying to see how thin I could make the slices I was giving them not to ensure they didn't get too much heat....but because I was stingy. I ONLY HAD ONE BHUT!!! Got a few chiliheads in the making! Really excited about this pepper...I have 4 reds, 4 chocolate, 3 white, 2 yellow and 3 purple plants...so I might have enough to last me a bit. I've had some dried bhut before this and must say its great in flakes or added to a sauce because it doesn't overpower your base with chinense flavor...but adds plenty of heat.
Still staring at the brain in wonder....maybe tomorrow.

Updates will be sporadic with family in town for Easter...so hope everyone has a good one!

Thanks for looking!
Shane

Shane. That bhut you had is a cross. It was supposed to be a choclate bhut. ( only Wayright could even guess what it crossed with) It is not nearly as hot as a true bhut. I think it is tastier than a bhut but that is another debate. When my chocolate bhut starts ripening I will send you a few. They will burn you good.

Have a happy easter !

I was very tasty! No bitter aftertaste at all! I know some of my plants are probably crosses as well. There are only a few I know to be pure...like these little guys from Matt:
P1000684.jpg

Two baby Scotch Bonnets!!! Woot! Looks as though they'll both spring up without their hats on too! These guys will get only a few sets of leaves under the lights then it will be into the 3.5" pots on the back porch under the lattice covered patio for a while before they are potted up to 6" containers then one in the ground and one in a 5 gallon container. Time to get these lights turned off for the season...

Ok...so I found a little time to sneak in an update! Haven't eaten any of Jamie's care package today...yet. I am debating about making a video of the Brain...Think I'm gonna do it! Was unable to get any of the Big Jims to pop and it's been almost a month. I ran out to Homey Depoi today to pick up one last bag of potting soil...ughhh. Cha-ching. Guess what I found???
P1000705.jpg

As we say in the Military...it you ain't cheating you ain't trying! Was so stoked to see these little guys on the rack! Maybe I'll have an entrant in the longest chili competition after all!

2 plants should be plenty, so...
P1000706.jpg

I PICKED UP FOUR!!! They all had a very nice root ball so I dropped them straight into their new 1 gallon homes for next 3-4 weeks. Then 2 in the ground and 2 into 5 gallon buckets!

Here are some of my containers...

Wild Brazil

P1000717.jpg

Will work for food!

P1000719.jpg

Little in ground Fatalii finally really starting to make a move...

P1000718.jpg

A few of my in ground plants...annuum Scotch Bonnet, Bishops Crown, Goccia D'Oro, Black Naga, and Manzano along the front row, and ummm a couple supers of some sort in the back...don't remember??? But that's a tomato in the background for sure!!!

P1000722.jpg

My corner garden area. Some tomatoes, Queensland Blue Sqash in the 3 mounds to the left annuums in the foreground and supers in the raised bed in the back. I will put okra in the other 3 mounds once they pop.

Gotta go momma's cracking the whip! Time to burn some pork chops!!!
Have a great Easter everyone!
Shane

Ok...so I decided that maybe a Red 7 would go with pork chops. The second of the peppers I tried I thought was a Red 7 was actually a Dorset Naga...this time I made sure I got the real deal...
P1000723.jpg

I originally (anytime I include that word it means I deviated from the plan...and it probably didn't go well) planned on taking it easy, small bites with food to get the taste and burn in small doses. Believe me if you're reading this and have never eaten a super...you still get PLENTY of burn that way. So, I cut the chili in half length wise to get the smell and closer inspection of the internal organs...a few seeds and a TON of placenta. All dripping with capsaicin...smell was as expected. VERY strong chinense aroma. Then I thought (another huge mistake) WTH and downed half the pepper and started to chew...and the experience begins.

No fruity taste at all, just very strong chinense followed by capsaicn bitterness. The heat started very slowly and I though I may have actually not gotten a hot one...so I ate the other half while still chewing the first. Tried to follow the "rules" as much as I could and chew for a while (maybe 15-20 seconds) before swallowing. The heat started in the throat...then moved to the side of the tongue, then lips...roof of the mouth, and even the gut almost immediately, Ruh-roh...convulsive hiccups within the first minute, sweat pouring off my head. Had to excuse myself from the dinner table for a moment. Punked out and had a little milk...
This pepper was F@##$% HOT!!!!! OMFG convulsive hiccups continued for about another minute then subsided. I had about a half a glass of milk more due to the stomach burn than the mouth. I then gathered myself, returned to the table and ate dinner, which was delicious. As I type this the pain in the stomach is all that remains and it is slowly subsiding. Wow, that wasn't the smartest move I've ever made. Has gained so much confidence over the past few days of eating these things that I thought I was some kind of bada$$ I suppose.

I have the Brain and Barrackpore remaining to try...ughhh and yess all rolled into one!

Thanks for reading!
Shane

I knew you couldn't stay away from updating :D

Your yard is looking just a little bit more than outstanding.
The pots and containers along the sidewalk are too cool!
Nice score at HD. Maybe I'll go see what they have here!

I suppose just 7 Pot is more accurate...but, I have some Yellow 7's so to avoid confusing myself I always include the color.

Happy Easter ErryBody!

Yeah...the day is not complete without it...Momma understands. Still managed to get in on some game night action last night with the fam, her brother and the niece and nephew. Good times...Thanks for the compliment, can't wait to see your yard after you put yours out!

Looking good Shane. That fatali looks like it will become a bush and should produce well for you. You really also have a lot of varieties going. I wish I had that kinda room to do the same thing. I get jealous every time I take a glance your glog.

I should get a new camera and start a glog!

Happy Easter!

Big or small...all grows are fun to follow! I have really enjoyed reading through a few really creative glogs from folks growing out a ton of plants in a tiny apartment. I keep meaning to get around to updating my grow list and give some credit where credit is due! Without the seeds you were kind enough to send my grow list would only be about half as long. You were the very first member on here to send me seeds...and that will not ever be forgotten. Thank you and have a very happy Easter!

Hey, I can dream can't I? :D You are very welcome for those seeds. I was glad to help out a sailor. I really looking forward to seeing how true those come out or if there were any interesting crosses. If anything, share your rewards with your shipmates. Apparently of a lot of you really like hot food. My brother has already told me a few interesting stories! Now I got some "orders to fill" as I'm told for sauces and powders.

You had me cracking up Shane. I remember the first super I tried and it was just like you described. Glad you made the best of it. The brains are not much hotter than the red 7's so you should be just fine. But I am a little let down that you hit the milk. Just kidding.

Jamie :onfire:

Great update Shane plants look like they are loving the weather and starting to produce for you hopefully my plants can catch up to yours and start producing now as they are barely budding up. Great find at HD by the way.
