So before I get around to relaying how pissed I am at Jamie right now for this commemt...
The brains are not much hotter than the red 7's so you should be just fine.
Ummm...yeah. I'll explain in detail how I feel about that in just a bit!
But first, I don't pay too much attention to my ornamentals because they just kind of take care of themselves, but I figured I would include them on an update. They are all some variation of Thai Hot Peppers...enjoy
Take that Jamie! You're not the only one harvesting on here!!!
Ok...so they're not too much to get excited about. The larger ones and the two round ones up top are surprisingly good! They have the heat of a Serrano...ish. The others are off two different type plants and while they have good heat and flavor, they are a bit tough. They all dry very well and make a tasty flakes with a good whole family heat level. I have them in the dehydrator with some Manzanos now...should make an interesting combo. Manzanos must be sliced into very thin strips or they will dry to a raisin like consistency. Even thin slices you will come across the occasional chewy bit. They add such an amazing flavor I don't mind a little chewiness.
Down to business...I sat down to dinner (beans, rice and cornbread) with the full intention of punking out and just eating little bits of Jamie's Brain until it was all consumed. I once again sliced the pepper in half stem to tip and took a peak inside. The way I cut it most of the placenta happened to end up on one half. I took a deep wiff....WOW! It smelled really mean, I manned up and ate half of the part with the placenta in it. BAM! Right out the gate it punched me in my tongue. It wasn't horrible though...so I ate the rest of that half....I didn't time it, but I tried to stick to the chew for 30 seconds blah blah blah...I got about halfway done with that time limit and said Efff it and popped the rest in there...before I got done with the 30 seconds of chewing I realized what I had just done. I swallowed and the throat burn was instant...the tongue and the roof of my mouth were now on fire (I thought). To avoid any further ridicule from Jamie I decided to look at my watch and do at least 5 minutes before I ate/drank. OK folks once again if you've never done this...you won't fully understand the explanation. Not saying I am some sort of BA...just that unless you've been there words just don't do it justice.
About a minute passed and then the heat REALLY started to kick in. I leaned my head back in my chair and closed my eyes trying to find my happy place...nope didn't find it. Instead I started violently hiccuping and when I did some pepper/saliva went up my nose. OMFG...that brought tears, coughs and even a few dry heaves. It also started a snot river running down my face...Looked at my watch 2 minutes! ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME!!! I grabbed a napkin and tried to keep up with all the bodily fluids pouring from all sorts of different places above my shoulders. I was sweating profusely but the hiccups had stopped and the nose was feeling better...no more tears in my eyes...looked at my watch again 4 minutes. The worst had passed...and I was coming back down to earth. 5 minutes finally passed and I started to eat my dinner...every bite of the beans and rice set the fire in my mouth off again...and again...and again.
Must say the flavor once again wasn't that good...to me. Tasted like the bad part of the chinense flavor just super concentrated. I didn't notice a bitter aftertaste with this dude like I did with the 7 pot however. So I can see some great recipe potential. Definitely the hottest thing I have ever eaten...so far. The heat was a little deceptive, it hit sort of hard out of the gate so you think its done...but it isn't. It continued to build for about 3 and a half minutes before it leveled off and started to come back down around 4 1/2 or so. It then subsided pretty quick and didn't leave me with pain in my stomach which some pepper do, 7 pot included. I've done a lot of crazy things...and I consider myself a pretty tough guy. I've run 4 marathons, one barefoot...I've even run 100 miles nonstop over steep mountain trails at over 220lbs losing all my toenails in the process. I'm here to tell you this pepper is pretty painful...so I like it!
So glad I found a way to get all the endorphins...with so much less effort!!!!!
Hope you enjoyed it!
