stc's comeback down south grow...

Hey THP...been a while and much has changed for me and my family. We accepted orders to Charleston, SC and now reside in a small town just north of there called Moncks Corner. I haven't really had a grow in three years, so it is going to be nice getting back out in the dirt. My modest list thus far:

Red Brain Strain 7 pot:   coheed
Orange Brain Strain 7 pot: gnslngr
7 pot Monster Infinity: gnslngr
Trinidad Scorpion Chocolate: gnslngr
Reaper
Charrapita Yellow
Primo X (my cross)
Jay's Peach Ghost Scorpion
Jay's Red Ghost Scorpion
Bhut Orange Copenhagen
SB7J: Romy 6???
Naga Reaper
Fatalii
7 Pot Primo
7 Pot Barrackpore
Large Yellow Brain Strain
Yellow Bhut: Spicegeist
Yellow 7 Pot Primo: Romy 6
UBSC
7 Pot Rennie
Brown Moruga
Butch T
Douglah x Butch T: gnslngr
Yellow Cardi Scorpion: Romy6

I sowed 3 seeds each for these varieties, but expect some no shows. Many of these seeds are almost 10 years old. My grow setup will be two grow tents with 300w Mars Hydro LED lights on the seedlings and as they get bigger they will graduate to 600w Mars Hydros. My main garden this year will be in straw bales, but I may keep a few indoors under lights all season.

The Baccatum and Annuum lists to follow...

I've missed growing and the THP community.

Everything looks good, like I knew it
would, brother Shane!

Glad to see you have been busy.
Plants look like they are really digging
the SC sun.

And pods! Wow - good goin' buddy!
Good luck going forward, chief. Can't
wait t o see this plants in their full glory
in a couple of months!

We are just inching toward plant-out here.
Maybe after this few days of 85-90˚ weather
passes by and the temps get back down
into the 70's. Really hard to harden off plants
when we go from 60's, cloudy and moist, to
drought and hot sun in a matter of days

Everything is looking great. I especially like the way your bale plants are coming along.
Yeah...it was more of an experiment this season, so it is kind of small scale, but they are doing very well and next season I may expand. Need to find a cheaper source than Tractor Supply though. They are quick to wilt in the sun and need a little more water than my inground and containers...

I wanted to give an update on the tiny plant I named "Twilight Zone." It was supposed to be a Numex Twilight ordered directly from Chili Pepper Institute at NMSU, and all of its siblings grew true to form...but this little one is a tripp...

Leaves damaged by wind in a couple thunder storms...but still healthy. Only a couple inches tall and this this sprouted back in January...Tiny little blooms trying to open but having a tough time due to the leaves crowding it out. Can't wait to see how this thing turns out.

Tepin 1 on the left and 2 on the right...something fishy. I have several more Tepin plants from the same source and they're all a bit different, but some of them haven't started podding up yet so time will tell. Hopefully #2 is a nice surprise.

So far so good...everything seems happy and healthy. The Hay bale peppers are a little behind the container peppers, but the tomatoes seem to like the hay more than soil. Tons of pods forming hopefully will lead to some monster harvests this year. The only concern thus far has been the inconsistency in many of the seeds. It is early, but I've grown most of these varieties before and several don't look quite right. Investing $$$ in all new seeds from "reputable" vendors should mean good consistent results. Hopefully my spidey senses are off or at least the crosses I ended up with are something as cool or better than the original.  Time will tell and I may post a little something in the vendor vault later.

Hope y'all's grows are looking as amazing or better than mine is right now!

Wow! Look at those pods.
Those are still in my future here!
Hopefully

I agree about the seeds. Seems to be the old
school straight up non-crossed peppers like 7
Pot Yellow or BJ Red are sometimes hard to find.
If everybody keeps crossing everything, pretty
soon all the pods will look the same.

Awesome.

But the same.

I got mixed up in my photo and caption order and my thought was "yeah that's an understatement!" but I managed to figure it out.

Things are looking solid stc. Seems like the adjustment to a new growing climate hasn't caused you too much trouble.  Thanks for posting up the pics.
I always put captions under...some folks do over??? I get confused too. The plants do seem to like the weather here thus far. Heat still on the rise, but I don't think it will get hot enough here to have them shut down completely. My biggest challenge is shade most of the plants that aren't fruiting yet are probably not getting enough sun. I'm moving them around trying to figure out the best spots, but the boss lady won't let me pile them all right in the middle of the yard...but I'm still working on her!

I've always enjoyed growing a few ornamental varieties (plus it helps keep mama off my back about the peppers). This year I grew a couple of ornamentals including the NUMEX Jigsaw...not to be confused with the superhot jigsaw which I'm also growing. I have been very pleased so far, the plants are super vigorous and stunning. The purple to deep green mixed with snow-white variegation on the leaves mixed with the deep purple pods and lighter purple flowers are really cool...the only thing I wish was different is upright instead of the pendulum pods, but that's small potatoes.

Garden is looking great!
Where did you purchase them, sorry if that’s been addressed?

That is why anytime I’ve been shared with over the many years, or have acquired new seed, I bag at least one Branch tip and keep the genetics locked in. Some years I do better than others at effort, but I always give it a shot. Out of 152 total keepers over the years, lots of them are older seed stock and I only got like 94 to germ this year, I’m still not going to stop attempting germination on them after plant out. All I need is one plant. Oldest seed this year that I may very well lose is from 1999. Keeping the old genetics is really cool. I hope more people do this.

I had three sources.

PepperLover
Pepper Joe's
and The Chili Pepper Institute at NMSU

So far 2 of the 3 have produced "nots",,,won't know much more until i start to get some color on them. I definitely have some that look true as well. Time will tell.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I have to admit I didn't watch a single game of thrones until about 7 months ago when my wife and I binge-watched the entire thing. It's pretty good, but I am really glad I waited and binged...only way to go.

Howdy Chief! Just sticking my head in to say hi. Glad to see your grow is doing so well. How are those tarheels treatin' ya?
Rick! Long time no hear buddy! I'm a little South of the Tarheels...more in the Gamecock/Clemson neighborhood. It's really nice down here...I guess it's more over from where I was. This humidity feels like home though...almost like I'm back down on the Gulf Coast.
