STEVE954 Grow Log

Hello from south florida. This year's grow started just after thanksgiving when sowed several different strains of scotch bonnet. After many attempts, I finally got my hands on some scotch bonnet seeds from the Jamaican Ministry of Agriculture!

… Only if I had a side of breadfruit! …
I’ve seen it for sale at the swap shop off sunrise, my favorite way is roasted in an pimento wood fire, like they do next to Boston Bay it’s killer! There are a few trees in private yards in Plantation that I’ve seen growing, so you can find dem here.

Hopefully I can get the broad mites under control …
You are preaching to the choir, you and me both.

… I'm having the same problem with broad mites and I'm able to control them using alternating sprays of neem oil and castille soap. I've been experimenting with Murphy's Oil Soap, and its been working too at 1@tbsp per quart. Haven't seen any ill effects yet, but it's winter. AI still have tp spray at least 1x per week, sometimes 2x. YMMV
… How long have you been treating the broad mites? …
Chris, I’m also interested in reading reply to Steve’s question, been growing here for years and never had issue with them till now, there’s a little evidence of them on almost all my crop now in a matter of a few days and I’ve been spraying leaves and treating the soil with both soapy water and H2O2, can’t tell yet if I’m making headway but this sucks IMO.

I've been treating the mites almost as long as I've been growing peppers, they never seem to go away. Funny but they don't seem to bother the ornamentals at all. I think part of my problem is that my peppers are growing under my butterfly garden trees (Jatropha, Firebush, and Bougainvillea), so whatever is on those plants falls down on the peppers. I cant spray the butterfly garden, so.I have to spray the peppers. If I could isolate the peppers Im sure the reinfestation would take longer.

Steve,
That plating shot looks great!
I'm stuck with a salad tonite........That Jerk chicken would be a nice topper for the salad.
Your kids are cuties......I remember when mine were that young. Enjoy your time with them. These are the unforgettable years.

I hope the mites are on the retreat. Keep up the battle, They're beatable!

I'm scratching my head as to why H2o2 would be considered an insecticide... There is no mode of action. It isn't inherently toxic at low concentrations, isn't corrosive, abrasive, won't suffocate or dessicate, and is not a IGR. I'm thinking it may be more of a repellent, albeit a weak one. Soap or oil will be more effective imho.

A small amount of hydrogen peroxide will rapidly degrade external tissues of soft bodied pests, aphids, mites, whiteflies..ect. You are correct, it is a repellent but in higher concentrations. I like the idea of switching up from soap to oil.

If you have been successful over the years, I would like copy what your doing!!! Thanks for the advice bud!

Steve, I didn't know you just had a baby...Congratulations!!!

I love Hillary's little hand-on-her hip...As they say in South Louisiana— "sha dahlin!"

Steve, nice update love the pod porn and your pictures are getting much better! Mites found a leaf or two on almost every one of my plants now, that’s why I dusted today and roughly the same distance that you’ve noted. They can ride on wind currents and on little critters as you know with the whitefly example you posted. Wish they were as easy to get rid of as the whiteflies. I have no doubt we’ll win the war but at what cost to plants and pods, I’ll update you tomorrow on any impact the DE dusting does, keep da faith mon!

Progress!!! New Growth! broad mites destroyed all but a few SB-MoA, 1 SB-Papa Joes Market, 1 SB-Red Foodarama.

MoA coming back! I pruned the twisted leaves and sprayed 50% H2o2/h2o. New Growth!

Looking good, new growth and you covered your bets with back-up planting, nice! I like the TFM pod shots, bring me over a perfect one or two and I’ll shoot and post it too :D

Steve,
I'm glad to see new growth on your cut backs. They'll fill in pretty quick and once they do the plants will be bushier than ever.
Ha..........I like the shot of the seed tray. That reminds me of the Greyhounds at the track.....cool!
Good luck with the seed start, the humidity will get them popping fast.

Steve dem TFM pods are exquisiteness mon! Keep dem pics coming … you can take hundreds of different pictures of the same one and call dem lewd TFM pod erotica ;)

Nice Steve! We'll never get tired of your TFM porn bruddah! Now kill those friggen mites!

Thnak you, gentlemen.

Ramon, looking forward to some SB dip exquisiteness! who do I have to kill to get a spray bottle full of your seaweed tea?!

Glad you got some new growth. They will pull though for sure!
Broad mites suck a$$.
Last season had one plant seriously effected. A few plants showed sighs, but something came along and took care of they naturally as i never did anything. Good bugs! But the one hungarian hot cherry that got them bad, had them on one side of the plant when it did it's first split. I eventually just cut the infected side off. The other side made a few pods.
Your TFM looks great. Looked unaffected!
I just had my first TFM pop (And a papa joes SB too [yay!]). And of course a day after i replanted some more as a back up. Hope mine turn out as wonderful as yours. Love the picts.
A TFM SB pict a day will do fine until you have other pods. No pressure.

… Ramon, looking forward to some SB dip exquisiteness!
I was going to make you some with the pods you will be giving me. I think you’ll really like it as our #1 & I loved the scotch bonnet flavor in a dip. As you know my plants are just starting their next round of pod production, I probably won’t have enough to make dips & sauces for a few weeks. At least the mites are dead, long live the dead mite situation ... thank the pepper Jah and a little elbo greese :D

who do I have to kill to get a spray bottle full of your seaweed tea?
lol, I can mix you a batch of mine but I’d rather help you start your own batch, it’s easy. I’ll be beach side next to the Clipper this coming Saturday for beach soccer, why don’t you meet me down there with a few plastic bags and I’ll help you get started and show you why it’s so good, dat seaweed is filled with life!!! PS don’t forget to wear a bathing suit, you’ll get wet … heck why not bring the wife. Hillary, and Charles. My wife and our #2 will be there with me, #1 might but I doubt it, he's become a home body since swim racing is over …

BTW love dat stinger look :)
