Stickman's 2013 Glog - Time To Pull The Plug on 2013

I'm pulling things together to get ready for my next growing season. I bought NuMex variety seeds from Sandia Seed company in New Mexico, Hot Paper Lantern Habaneros and Antohi Romanians from Johnny's Select Seeds in Maine and Korean varieties from Evergreen Seeds in California. Due to the unbelievable generosity of a number of THP members I've also gotten seeds to a wide variety of chiles from around the world. Special thanks to BootsieB, stc3248, romy6, PaulG, SoCalChilehead, joynershotpeppers, highalt, cmpman1974, smokemaster, mygrassisblue, Mister No, chewi, KingDenniz, orrozconleche and most recently and spectacularly, Habanerohead with a great selection of superhots and peppers from Hungary!
SANY0193.jpg

There are eleven varieties of Hungarian peppers in here, mostly the early, thick-fleshed, sweet ones that range from white through yellow to purple and red.., plus Aji Lemon Drop, BJ Indian Carbon, Naga Morich, Bishop's Crown and TS CARDI Yellow! Now I just have to go through my seed bank and match the space available to what I want to grow. Thanks Balázs!

Gorgeous flower there, Rick! Sounds like you are chomping at the bit to get going outside! Can't blame you one bit. Hoop house and get those guys where they want to be. My Andy F1 is loaded with pods. I think of you everytime I look at it. Thanks again!

Can't wait to see your outdoor garden shots! Once those little guys get in ground, it'll be ON!

Thanks Doc... glad you like them! If you have green pods that are large enough for stuffing, you might want to give Poot Gochu Jeon a try... it's a Banchan or side dish served with a dipping sauce of soy sauce, rice vinegar, lightly crushed toasted sesame seeds, gochugaru (Korean chile powder) and a little toasted sesame oil. http://www.homemadek...tuffed-peppers- I suppose if you made them with Jalapenos instead of Gochus they'd technically be Korean-style poppers...

Im with Brent. Can't wait to see everything outside.
Hi Jay
Still too cold, but things are progressing anyway... I've got pods on my Aji Criolla Sella!

The side-by-side comparison of the Yellow 7 is a bit problematic because of the improvised grow area I have for the airpots, but here's pics of them..

The Maya Red Hab and Douglah are doing about the same in the airpots. The Douglah that I shocked is doing OK... Who knows... it may outproduce the other one once it really gets going...

Sean, I think the Butch T had a bit of bacterial spot, but once it got acclimatized to the local conditions and dropped a few of the lower leaves, it seems OK. I've been misting it with the epsom salts and it's greening up.

Good to know. I've been misting with epsom salts, too, so hopefully it'll go away, if it's there. I just snagged some copper fungicide spray, to try and nuke anything that remains. It might be caused by my chronic overwatering, gonna back that off. I hope it doesn't cause any issues for you. My plants in your hands look better than my plants :) Actually, your plants in my hands are looking better than the rest of mine. Much greener, must be the soil base you are using?

Sweet! That Manzano has little tiny buds on it I bet...Once the split and then split again that's always what happens next, getting them to stick is the issue. That Aji is going NUTS!!! Great start to what promises to be a great season brother!

Whoa what a read, took me two days to catch up Rick, slow down there partner ;) lol

Many stuff I don’t know about so google befriended me some, hehe. Love dat color you captured in de spring picture you took, more shots when you have time ^_^ Great to hear you’ll be going outside soon till I read your morning update today saying “still too cold.” :(

I can’t wait to see your stuff outside, you gotta great jump on things … Both your peppers and nons are looking killer mon! Sure a few minor set backs but I'm sure you’ll get by them. I love the look on your Red Maya Hab, guess I’m a Hab guy deep down. I love the flavor of the reds with their robust, juicy, fiery, fruity and citrus like flavor they are one of my favorite peppers.

Was wondering do you prune roots when using air pots or is that something I read for other plants? And if so does that keep them smaller? Only wondering but if plants/peppers go thru so much water because of the air pots, why not go with some pouches, nursery pots or even inground?

Great job, can’t wait to see every little big thing outside and keep up dat great work :)

Thanks for the kind words folks... maybe it's the attention that spurs them on!

Maybe... I started with a bale of ProMix and for every 10 double handfuls of ProMix I added a handful of Dolomitic Lime, a handful of Bonemeal and a handful of pelleted Rock Phosphate.

That's what I hear Ramon... it's the first time I used airpots, so this is an experiment to see how they do. One thing I've noticed is that both the plants in solo cups and the ones in airpots have the same number of nodes... just that the ones in solo cups are elongating between the nodes and the ones in the airpots aren't. The ones in the airpots also seem to have much bigger leaves too. I'm thinking that when I put them outside full time, they'll start to grow upward too. If what I suspect is true... airpots aren't a grow quick scheme, they're a grow BIG scheme...
Maybe next year I'll experiment with other growing methods, but I think I'm maxed out for this one, Lol! :D

It's early days yet, but here are some shots of the Tomatoes and Eggplant...

Very nice update, love the Chilhuacle Negros. It definitely has a different shape.

Manzano, and Rocoto sure are happy.

Can't wait to see how things progress.

It won't be long until you're weeding!

I'm jealous that you got a rocoto to pop!

The leaves on the Manzano look insane.
I really love the shot of the onions from seed. I grew extra peppers this year so I ran out of room for stuff like that, and seeing your pictures made me really miss all of those extra garden goodies.

I hope not... I'll be using plastic mulch! ;)

Hi Stefan
Don't be too jealous... I've still gotta find room for all these plants, lol! I've only got a 7x6 meter plot to grow chiles, tomatoes, eggpants and the rest of my vegetables. My experiment with growing in airpots will handle the overflow I hope... I'm going to be planting carrots, beets, collards, baby bok choy, napa cabbage, shungiku, cranberry pole beans, french filet beans, hobak squash, pickling cucumbers, onions, lettuce, claytonia and mache'.

The weather over the next couple of days is supposed to be fairly unsettled... rain showers during the day and ice pellets at night. The garden plot is really dry, so we need the moisture, but it sets back the start of plant-out. It's just as well... I haven't found a new source of well-composted manure yet... When I went to my usual source last weekend, she said someone had paid her for her old manure pile and carried it off with big trucks. It's too bad, because the pile was huge and at least 5 years old... just perfect for spading into the garden!
Maybe I'll ask around at the Farmer's co-op to see if there are any small-time animal growers that have composted manure in the quantities I can use, and will be willing to part with it for free if I shovel and haul it myself...

All the uniqueness is great to see, not sure I'll ever grow such diversity but I love to see, who knows maybe one day for me. Good to read that you are getting the the moisture you need but sad for ya reading about any delays in planting outside. Can't wait to see all your babies hitting the dirt and the wonderful pictures you'll be posting poddage, veggies & foodie FTW! Have a great day mon :)

Hey All... I've got flowers on my Chinense varieties in the solo cups!

And the Aji Omnicolors I got from PaulG are soon to follow... probably by this weekend. I've definitely got to get the bed prepped this weekend and the plants hardened off this coming week so I can plant out by next weekend.

plants are looking great! looks like you know what you doing ;)

we have a amaryllis growing next to one of the holes on my mini disc putting course that im building. wife says that its bloomed every year as long as she can remember.

Thanks Sic... any chance of pics of your mini-golf layout?

Looks like we took a few backward steps today... we had a mix of rain and ice pellets pretty much all day...

Things are still growing though. Here are some tulips my wife planted along our front walk. The pink Engineer tape is so the neighborhood kids won't ride their bikes through them...

Have a great weekend all!

Hmmm, looks like my weather from earlier this week finally arrived at your place. We have a Red Flag Warning in place for tomorrow, which should make my son's soccer game lots of fun, and chances of snow again on Sunday, Monday, AND Tuesday. I'm over it!
