Stickman's 2016 Gochu Glog- Transplanting is Finished

Hi All, I'm back again after quite a while and more than a few changes. Health issues got in the way of being active here after Christmas, but I've resolved those and am ready to plug in here again, albeit with less time than I had before. Anyway... on to the chiles!

My friends with a CISA farm have started 6 MoA Scotch Bonnets, what I hope are 2 King Nagas and a couple of Jalapenos. I have three 1020 trays worth of 3inch pots planted with 4 varieties of Gochu peppers. I sowed them a week ago and they're just now starting to sprout. I also have 12 pots of Texas Wild Pequins and 6 pots of Guwahati Bhuts planted that haven't started to sprout.

In addition to the solar food dryer, I picked up a stainless steel 10-quart pressure cooker at Christmas time, so I'm planning on experimenting with using it to process purees and sauces to hopefully make them more shelf-stable. Any input on that would be gratefully accepted. :)

Those Morugas are hot, real hot. Pods look great and with 6 MOA plants you will have a nice harvest. I find them to be very productive.

Cheers Terry! I'm gonna try one of the Morugas tomorrow sometime. I'll have to have a pint of ice cream on hand for that though...

Boy, I hear ya brother... Lol! If we had another month in the growing season it'd sure hold down the grocery bills, but it'd also be a lot more work. Oh well... life is trade-offs. :)

Hey Rick... up to my eyeballs brother - that is an affirmative :D Not counting my chickens this year before they hatch through lol

You're probably wise to maintain a wait-and-see attitude Lourens... I'm glad to hear you're gonna have a chile garden though. That way we can live vicariously through your grow while we wait for our own to begin. ;)

Hey Rick - it's true... we enjoy watching one another in our respective winters. When I see that grow of your I just had to start germinating - it's your fault buddy lol

Hi All! Not too much to report in this morning's Dawn Patrol... we got half an inch of rain last night and the plants are rejoicing!  Picked a couple of quarts of Gochus and loaded them into the solar dehydrator with the ones from before.
SANY1711.JPG

Two of the pods were conjoined twins
SANY1710.JPG

Made a salsa last night with Poblanos, Jalapenos and volunteer Tomatillos from the garden. Roasted them with Onions and Garlic in a little olive oil and salt
SANY1707.JPG
SANY1708.JPG
SANY1709.JPG

Processed them into a chunky mixture by pulsing in the food processor and then stirring in chopped cilantro, ground cumin, lime juice and a couple of mashed avocados. Also simmered some chicken in chicken broth and shredded it for burritos. Here's today's lunch... Salsa on the bottom, with shredded lettuce, chicken and Monterey Jack cheese.

The 4 Poblanos in the salsa aren't very spicy, but the 4 Jalapenos punch it up a lot! We had burritos for supper last night and they were very tasty!

Have a great week all!

mmm burritos.... damn that looks tasty :drooling:

only few days for dehydrating? what are the temps inside your dehydrator ?

Cheers Uros!

I've gotten it up to 54 degrees C, though I usually run it at around 48 degrees for peppers and tomatoes unless I want viable seeds. In that case I run it between 35 and 46 degrees C like I would when drying herbs. It's a pretty good design that I built last year. http://thehotpepper.com/topic/52879-stickmans-2015-thats-all-she-wrote/?view=findpost&p=1214043
