The Bat on a Bike is located at the Broadway bridge where it crosses the Pantano Wash. Thousands of Free Tailed Bats live under the bridge, and people often gather to watch their sunset exodus. The city recently installed a bike path along the wash, and so this somewhat strange art was born.
While watching the Finger Rock fire from the Broadway bridge over Pantano Wash, something was gnawing and scratching at my subconscious. Something out of the distant past. Something kinda fun! What it was hit me only when I got home, so I didn't get quite the 'right' framing. Still, any sufficiently ancient Meatloaf fan should recognize the scene. (I wasn't consciously TRYING to blatantly plagiarize the album cover, but my shot came out looking very much the same.)
