Sydney Chilli hobbyist - begging for seeds

I was really hoping i'd get the parcel today for planting on weekend. No luck. :( Maybe Monday or unless deliveries are made Saturdays.

Yes sorry about that. My secretary at work (my ma) was going to post them thursday but the post office wasn't open yet.
I posted them yesterday afternoon in an express bag but you probly won't see them until monday.

Gives you more time to get your germination things sterilized or something :D

Welcome, chilliover. :)
Now that you have over 30 posts, I can offer you some more seeds (J/K ).
Don't have the same selection as Nova, but got these to share:
  • Pimenta de Neyde
  • Peruvian White
  • Nagabon
PM me your details if ya interested.

You can see the chiles in my flickr album (link in my signature). :)

Yay! would have been terribly awkward to send the same seeds.
I know you're hooked to the main line, but would ya like some Nagabon seeds?

Hi Nova a little advice of the growing please. As you know i have the 20cm pots and i got some fine potting mix. How much of the pot should i fill, how deep should i place the seeds and should i put some potting mix on top of the seeds. How much watering to begin with. also should i put them outside in the direct sunlight or inside the pergola where it does get warm but no direct sunlight. Anything else that i might need.

I advise against planting directly into the pots. What most growers do is to start in smaller seed raising pots with seed raising mix or plant into jiffy pellets/peat pucks and then transplant into larger pots when one or two sets of "true leaves" appear.

If you plant directly into pots its very hard to mantain the proper moisture and heat needed for germination. The temps for germination should be around 25 celcius and no greater than about 30 celcius. They do not need light to germ just warmth and moisture. You don't want them too wet though just damp.

Some seeds may take up to a month to germinate too so a healthy dose of patience is also required!

thanks Nova. I'll go get those you've mentioned. Is now the best time to plant considering you said the temp should not be over 30. Not sure where i am going to buy patience from though. I have none.

Go ahead and plant as much as you want. If kept in a warm shady spot (even on top of the fridge) you will get germination. Probably not a high rate but you will get enough to pop. If you are going to use jiffy pellets to germ in i suggest you buy some cheap plastic c ups (not clear ones) to transplant the seedling into after it has sprouted.

While your at it you may consider buying the following.
Seasol
Fish Emulsion
Epsom Salts
Neem Oil (because you WILL get aphids at some time)
A larger property (because this is the start of an addiction)

Best of luck, any more questions feel free to ask. :)

The larger property is a must. I received your mail just now. I can't beleive how much effort you have put into this. I wish i can repay you in the future for this. I'll probably have to buy Jiffy pellets from ebay. Not sure where else i can get them from.

They sell jiffy pellets at Bunnings and the if you want to go that way although ebay is cheaper if you are willing to wait a little longer.

I am glad you are pleased with the selection i sent, i could only provide a few of some varieties as they were my last seeds.
Don't worry about pay back just pass seeds along from your pods when you harvest that way the circle continues. You are very welcome too. :)

Bunnings have them. my local HOME hardware and Miter 10 also have them.

both my closest Bunnings said they don't have them so i ordered off ebay. Now the waiting came begins. The wholesalers had them in lots of 500 but obviously cheaper then ebay.
