dont know how many of you are dream theater fans, but their new cd came out yesterday. it kicks serious ass. it reminds me of older dream theater. awesome leads, no muddy tone, and james is actually singing good (hard to believe) in this one.
few gripes are - #6 prophets of war is probably the worst dream theater song ever written. maybe even worse than the garbage that made up octavarium...
-too many keyboard parts. i dig the keyboard in dream theater, but they let him go nuts, for some reason.
-the album has so many over dubbed parts there is no telling what its going to sound like when they play these songs live. every song has at least 3 guitars going at one time, plus the keyboard. some even have 4 guitars. john got a little ridiculous here. it makes for an awesome sounding album, but a shitty sounding live performance. we will have to see.
anyway, if you are in anyway a DT fan, this is a must have. their best cd since scenes from a memory probably.
