This thing confuses me.

So I bought a few plants from a local nursery off their clearance section. I got a few Hab strains a yellow, orange, and Red. And this thing... It was labeled as a Cayenne and I'm quite sure this pepper is not.

It is just under 2 inches long and 1 1/2 wide as well as a full inch tall

Cut open it looks like so

There is no heat that I can tell at all and it has the flavor of a Thai or tabasco pod. A little bitter and very plant like.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Id say a hab cross but id have to see more pods off the plant to know if its a common
pod shape for it or just a cross. It would also help to see the plant itself. Upload some
pics of the plant and more pods and well go from there.

There are no other pods yet... that was the only one and I can get some pics of the plant but I'm not sure how much help it'll be considering it's still quite small and as of the other day had no flowers or pods on it at all. I will keep you up to date though when there are either flowers or pods on it.

Thanks,
David

I bought it from a Nursery this year about 2 weeks ago actually and it had 1 pod just popping on it when I got it and was about 6"-8" tall with maybe 14 or so leaves. It's now about 12"-16" tall and 30-40 leaves. But all this does nothing to explain why there was 0 heat at all.... I had a friend try it and he has a low tolerance (thinks Jalapenos are hot) and said there was no heat. As for Pics of the plant I'll get some tomorrow when it's still light out.

You say the plant was on clearance? What shape was/is it in? I once had a "sick" Hab plant that produced bitter, heatless pods. Interesting thing... I've had "sick" plants since (non-Habs), and all have still produced normal-enough tasting pods and still kept their heat. Might be a sick Hab thing?? (silly theory?)

I can get some pics of the plant but I'm not sure how much help it'll be considering it's still quite small and as of the other day had no flowers or pods on it at all.

To help identify the species of the plant. Flowers and pods not necessarily needed for that. ;)

Ok so I got pics of it today I was a bit busy with my new job but here they are.

And yes Gasificada it was in pretty bad shape. All the leaves were sun damaged or yellowing/spotted. but it's much happier now.

oh yeah I checked it's only 10 3/4" tall and 9 1/2" wide so my guess was a bit off.

Wooooooow! The top view of that plant doesnt even look like a pepper plant at first sight! Very interesting! Id love to grow that next year! Very interesting!

Lucas

If you are interested in growing it shoot me a PM with your addy I would be happy to send you some seeds from it (this goes for anyone). I pulled 17 seeds from that first pepper and it has like 12 flowers popping right now so I seem to have brought it around quite well and hope to have a decent yield from it still.

I assure you, you are seeing things.... My plants are all bug free :P Making me go outside and check my plants for bug good sir.... shame on you.

I think it's just a crappy cellphone camera picking up something weird. I mean... well a 5MP camera as opposed to if I took my 18MP Camera out, it's not really that crappy.

I'll keep you updated I have 2 pods peaking out tonight tho so it should only be like 2-3 weeks before they either look normal or turn out weird again.

Are you absolutely, positively, 100% sure they are not aphids? I swear I can even see shed skin on one of the bottom buds....

Not accusing you of bad housekeeping or anything just looking out for a fellow grower. ;) Shame on me if that's how you feel, but in my experience, it's never a waste of time checking these things out..... even if it turns out to be a false alarm. ;)
