While in Iquitos in 2015, I was able to collect and retrieve both Aji Charapita and what I always believed to be Aji Cerezo. Both C. Chinense dominant. As pictured here with some other finds that day.
I have been noticing lately, that when finding others mentioning "Aji Cerezo/a" that they are showing a small C. Annuum that looks very similar. Even Ajies De Peruano lists them as annuum.
So either Charapita just comes in Yellow and Red, much like Aji Limo, or someone got it wrong from way back. All I can say for sure is that everytime I found Aji Charapita Yellow, it was always labeled or refereed to as Aji Charapita. However, when you find the red right next to them, no name, no label, and no one knew the name. Trust me I asked, over and over. Everyone knew the yellow were "Charapita" but no local could tell me what the red were called.
